I've been contemplating if I should get Shadow or not and today I've finally bit the bullet. I'm really excited and I can't wait. This is why I'm asking how long it usually takes to get the Shadow VM?

It depends. I signed up for Shadow about a month ago and during the installation process, I went with the manual option--which takes around 40 minutes from first completing the signup process to actually being in Windows (well, going through the installation process, but you get the idea).
If you go for “Gaming Ready” option, it might takes less time but it also might take more. I had to manually install Steam, which is most people’s default platform of choice for PC gaming, but the Game Ready option probably pre-installs it for you (I’m a power user, so I prefer more control), as well as other software packages to make jumping into the gaming experience more seamless.
TL;DR bare minimum 40 minutes wait time, before the VM can be used
