My Ultra is being forcibly taken away and downgraded to boost

How is that fair at all. Not even giving us a free month or something.

Anyone else get that BS email?

By Thursday, May the 20th:

  • You will have access to a Shadow Boost configuration for $14.99 per month, with a month-to-month plan.

  • Your primary storage and data (256 GB) remains intact, but the surplus additional storage provided with Shadow Ultra will be removed and the data erased.

  • Your additional storage paid add-ons will remain, but the data stored will be erased. Once erased, you can access your additional storage slot(s) once again.

  • Your current subscription being more expensive than Shadow Boost, you will be credited with the difference*.

lets also not forget the 14.99 price is going up to 29.99 on the 25th of June

@brax4001 You should be able to connect to your shadow. Contact support and attach the error code you get, if you get one. Also tell them that you were downgraded lately.

am i the only one that cant even get into my shadow after getting that email if so when will i be able to get back in

@corywooden
Sorry to hear that. Feel free to leave feedback in your support ticket.

@Kelshir @corywooden You cannot cancel yet since you are still on your normal contract and nothing has changed yet. On the 20th, so in 10 days, the service changes and you are out, pretty easy. You can ask customer support to not automatically start a shadow boost subscription for you, so you don’t have to pay the 15$, if you want to leave.

@Phobos That information would have been super useful to include in the correspondence with Support. Again, this is primarily a communication issue. Now, based on this info, I need to open ANOTHER ticket with support-- wait 2 days for them to respond-- then have to send another confirmation of cancellation. Shadow’s disregard for other people’s time is staggering.

@Phobos I think saying due to the change I want to terminate my account but there isn't an option on the account page is pretty clear. Especially hours after the change.

And also replying to confirm and saying go ahead and cancel.

It isn't my fault support is trash and can't cancel it correctly. But that's part of the purpose of chargebacks. When a company can't manage to take care of their own problems.

100%. It should not have taken 4 days and 6 emails to be able to complete cancellation. You guys have clearly known this was coming since the merger announcement but have done just a terrible job at communicating with the affected members of the community. It seems to me like retention was never the goal.

It’s cool though. Lesson learned. As far as I’m concerned you can shut mine off tomorrow and refund me the month of May. I won’t be back.

@Kelshir if you currently have an Infinite or Ultra you will be downgraded to a Boost monthly plan as you can see in your email. You will then be able to cancel. If you don’t want a new contract but cancel directly after your Infinite/Ultra contract ends you have to tell support in a friendly and understandable way.

How can we actually cancel if on annual plan?

Support is useless and has only cancelled after my yearly ends.

This isn't a price change, it's a service change and Monday when my card company is taking calls I'm going to dispute and chargeback at this point.

yes I got this too!

If neither Shadow Ultra of Infinite will not be available as of May 20th for me a continued subscription to Shadow Tech is worthless to me, Shadow Boost isn’t capable of meeting my gaming demands! Why I’m I forceably being downgraded in service? Either Shadow Ultra of Shadow Infinite or I am forced to look at other gaming platforms for service!!

@Karlong Shadow is already testing new and better hardware, so it is very likely that the lights come back on in the future. For now we have to wait and see what happens.

Hahahahahahaha….oh, I needed that.  Thanks.

I’ve ordered a new gaming laptop and cancelled my Shadow.  Goodbye to this mess, hello to a hardware configuration that won’t get ripped out from under me when a company sells out.

I mean, here are the base truths.  My iMac in Bootcamp?  Better than Shadow Boost.  My MacBook Pro in Bootcamp?  Better than Shadow Boost.

Actually…I was going to make more comparisons, but that’s enough.  Shadow Boost was nice hardware….several years ago.  I’m generally a Mac user, and the reason I got Shadow was to play current AAA games.

Shadow Boost works for some and I appreciate that.  But even Shadow “Infinite” couldn’t achieve 60fps on max settings at 1440p in some games.  Often times current gen consoles tested higher and are cheaper per year than Infinite!

I mean, what’s next, really?  As a company they have one major goal: “full featured high-end PC” for gaming.  They sold out, and now they are failing at the one thing they are supposed to be good at.

So glad I cancelled and bought a gaming pc. I was really hoping Shadow would make a real comeback but as soon as people start scaling things back that’s just the beginning of the end. I’ve never seen a company scale back and succeed. There’s no returning from this. Such a waste of an investment. Back to being stuck with 256gbs of storage too! My Switch has more storage than that! How are you supposed to play aaa games that are only getting bigger? What are you gonna just play cell phone games or something? R.i.p. Shadow.

You know what you guys are right I’m at least happy you’re still up and going. Even boost is significantly better than the hardware I have right now. @Phobos thanks for taking the time to respond you are right. Maybe they’ll come out with another higher tier. I’m just happy to help keep shadow going. I’m going to keep subscribed through all of this particularly seeing that they still have time to respond even when I was negative. Thanks shadow

I also received the news. It's incredibly saddening and frustrating because it was a behemoth of a task for many of us to even get upgraded to Ultra and Infinite. I absolutely love the concept of the service Shadow provides and have recommended it to many people by word of mouth. I'm fortunate that Boost will still meet my bare minimum needs for now but I'm sure not everyone will be that lucky. I want to support this company so bad as the service they offer is pretty unique all things considered, but this is making it difficult. My gut tells me they oversold and overpromised on the upgradable tier system before their business was able to sustain it. And that's such a shame. I hope their low level employees still have their jobs because I'm certain that none of this is their fault. I'll probably continue to subscribe via Boost for now out of hope this will be rectified but I'm not holding my breath any longer for this to be a permanent alternative route to just forking over the money to upgrade the hardware in my PC.

Hey @Karlong
Infinite and Ultra is removed in all US datacenters which makes it not possible to move you. Just see what the future brings. I am sure the lights will come back on once. Maybe even greater than ever. Not greater lights, but hardware :D

Wow really, I’ve been enjoying this so much to be able to play raytraced games. I even did a year commitment and then they just yank it away. Like you could of changed us to a different data enter with infinite still. Now the machine is relatively useless for my use case(raytraced games). I literally recommended it to anyone I talked to and all of a sudden it’s gone…  to hell with boost it should just be called Old Shadow Boot not Shadow Boost

Totally disappointed but there’s nothing I can do. I requested through support that they downgrade mine now as I have time to rebuild it in the next few days as opposed to the deadline date.

I also don’t have much more than game installations on mine as that was all I used it for. I just hope they don’t change my DC from Chicago, I have decent latency and would prefer that not change.

Whether that happens or not we shall see. It might be time to buck up and start looking at getting a local gaming rig if things get worse from here on out, I will wait though as I do enjoy this service.

I’ve enjoyed using my Infinite account...but now I’m pricing out gaming laptops.

Given Shadow’s history, it’ll likely be 1-2 years before they get this junk worked out.  If they had a plan it would have been in the email.

I also just got notified, after having to send many emails, go through support tickets, and months of waiting to get my upgrade to Infinite worked out, that I’m getting kicked back to Boost.

This is unacceptable.  If Shadow gave a hoot about its users, it NEVER would have signed an agreement requiring users to lose data (allotments) and go back to an quite out of date plan.  I could understand being transitioned to a new data center due to a legal agreement.  I could even understand having to recreate my Shadow from the ground up.  But this??

I have never seen more proof about what Shadow and it’s owners and employees truly care about.  This, I think, is likely the last straw for me.

So for those of us that are being ousted out of the Dallas hub into boost - let me tell you how the service has gone for the last six months. First we were told that if we wanted to go ahead and sign up for infinite we would be able to upgrade to ultimate if we wished. That was a lie. If we signed up for infinite we were LOCKED out from upgrading for some I don’t even understand reason. But whatever it was still a fine service.

For the week it worked correctly.

Following that Dallas has since Christmas 2020 been staffed by individuals that apparently are incapable turning on the air conditioner and has had a heat issue that has consistently resulting in sub-par service ever since. The upbeat messaging can only go so far and unfortunately that mile marker was reached much earlier.
