Update on Gravelines DC and Ultra/Infinite

Hello Shadow-Team,

may I ask for an update on the Gravelines DC and how Ultra/Infinite is coming along?

Just saying “there is no news” is a bit lame in my opinion! Why not keep us updated what is going on right now?

  • How is building the Gravelines DC going?
  • Are there any difficulties right now or is everything going according to plan?
  • What are the experiences so far with the small ultra/infinite testers group?
  • Will You acivate more preorders for stress-testing even before september/end of summer?

For me its completely ok if You say You’ll need more time to test and tweak the configurations and if there will be delays because of Covid-19. No problem!

But keep us informed please...throw us a bone!

Have you checked out/looked around the forums? Seen the activation thread, is there anything about them there?

I already have Shadow Ultra.

I first subscribed to Shadow in the Summer of 2019.

In January 2020 I was contacted offering the upgrade to Ultra or Infinite. Selected Ultra and committed for an additional 12 months. 

In February 2020 I was told I could have my upgrade to Ultra, but only if I agreed to have a clean install (i.e. Shadow would be wiped). I agreed to this.

25th March 2020 my new Shadow was activated. 

Running Speccy indicates its the Ultrs Spec. 16 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000.

I’ve always wondered where by data centre is now. I’m based in the UK and the windows clock on my original Shadow was an hour ahead  of London (i.e. Paris). Post upgrade it is now 8 hours behind London, indicating West Coast US (or perhaps I’m overthinking this and its simply that is the time zone selected on the windows install and the latency from California to London would be horrendous). 

Today I  dug a bit further and saw reference to the Gravelines server on the status page being the server for European Ultra and Infinite users here: https://status.shadow.tech/

So it would appear to be built and operational?

  • Are there any difficulties right now or is everything going according to plan? So far, Shadow has said that it was still due for end of summer as planned, they are working on it everyday but things are changing all the time, hence the fact that they can’t provide any specifics (because it would change day all the time)
     
  • What are the experiences so far with the small ultra/infinite testers group? You could check on discord with the community and ask them about it ( Europe discord : https://discord.gg/55hcCUX) or check on social media to see how people are experiencing it (youtube, twitter etc.)
     
  • Will You acivate more preorders for stress-testing even before september/end of summer? They are obviously allways wanting to put more people in, but, so far, it seems that there won’t be more people being activated with Ultra and Infinite until end of summer but who knows. 

    So they really are doing their best to be able to provide Ultra and Infinite in times and they are working on it everyday. But, believe me, if they don’t give the community any more news about it, it is because they don’t have any to share ^^ (i’m pretty sure they would tell us if they had anything, or a bone as you said ^^, to throw at us :D)

Do you know where the “new end of summer 2020” ultra / infinite users will be located? Currently i am on the Amsterdam servers as a germany based customer.

Are there any plans on a datacenter in Frankfurt or Germany?

Well, I thought Ultra and Infinite would be built in Gravelines for the European market. Probably that changed.

Does anyone know where they will be located now?

Victor, Emmanuel Freund and other members of staff through out different French Shadownews. In Europe, this summer Ultra and Infinite will be in a 2CRSI Data center

If i had to bet, i’d say it will still be located in France, but no idea where exactly.
As for a german/Frankfurt data center, haven’t heard any official informations about a data center opening anytime soon (does not mean there won’t be, just that no infos have been released yet)
