Introduction
It has been around 2 weeks now that my Shadow App heat up my computer every time I use it at least a few minutes… It’s not just getting hot, it’s also making some heavy noises, it’s the first time that my computer seems to be working this hard in several years.
When this happens, it’s getting hot and making some noise, but it also affects my entire computer. Everything seems slow. If I reduce the shadow app (not close) and switch to another (going on discord for example), it feels like my computer is struggling, and running at max 20fps.
At first, I didn’t know why my computer was doing that. I noticed that a Windows Update was proposed around this date (I first thought that Microsoft was sabotaging me to force me to update Windows, but then I updated Windows and it did not change anything). Then I noticed that this mostly happened when my computer was charging, so I thought that my charger had a problem. But when I closed all my app, the computer calmed down.
Shadow, or charger ?
I noticed 2 things. Firstly, this usually happened when I was playing with Shadow. Secondly, this usually happened when my computer was charging. But my computer is usually charging when I am playing (I am using a laptop) so this is a logical relationship.
The interesting thing is that, when I started the Shadow app, the computer was gradually getting out of control. The first minutes was ok. And when it was getting too hot and starting to make loud noise, I could unplug the charger or close the app to calm the computer.
But, even if the charger could help the computer to get hot faster, it was not the problem. During the last 2 weeks, I had no problems when I was using my laptop in charge. But I was still getting this problem when I was using Shadow (even when not charging).
Task Manager Reports
Today I managed to take some Task Manager screenshots, so that I could figure out what’s happening.
I mean, so that you can figure it out.
After playing a few minutes, this is what my task manager looked like (my task manager is in french)
While my computer was struggling :

When I just closed the Shadow App :

And a few minutes (around 3 minutes) after closing the app, every was calm again :

Some logs and informations about my computer
I made a ZIP file that contains my files “shadow-launcher.log”, “shadow.log” and “config” from the “.shadow” folder. And also the “DxDiag.txt” file with all the information about my computer. I prefer not to share it publicly but, Shadow Team, please feel free to contact me if you need those files.
What happened ?
Unfortunately, I just learned today that my Shadow subscription going up from 13€/month to 30€/month. I mean, this could not be the worst timing.
I don’t know what is happening but I’m pretty sure that this intense heat causes damage to my laptop. It is a 3 years old laptop and it still works fine. I do not want to damage it. So if it is not fixed soon, I will have to stop my subscription, I will not pay twice the actual price for that :/.
So, my question is, why does the shadow app make the computer behave as if I were mining bitcoin ?
Has anyone else noticed anything me ?
