Issue/Describe the bug

The view and menu button are not working when reconnecting controller using the Shadow Apple TV app  

 

Applications/Devices: 

Shadow Beta app on the Apple TV 4K and Xbox one wireless controller 

 

Versions:

Shadow app: Beta v3.7.5 (178)

tvOS: v14.4, v14.5, v14.6, v15

 

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Start shadow on the Apple TV
  2. Start a game
  3. Play the game
  4. turn Off controller with button or for example replace battery’s 
  5. turn on controller and view and menu button are not working. 

 

Additional Notes

  • Xbox one controller.
  • Quick fix::
    Select home in the Shadow app and restart streaming to make the view and menu button working again.

Hi,

is there any update on this issue. I am running shadow (3.10.2) on Apple TV (iOS 15 and 16) and I have the exact same issue. This is something that has been going on a long time. It used to work, once I reconnected a controller it stopped working and now it doesn’t work at all..

I’m also experiencing this.

Start and Select is not working *at all* anymore.

 

Any updates from Shadow?

Same here: Since the update to the tvOS App the controllers don’t recognize start / select

I’ve had an issue with using my Xbox series X controller with my Apple TV 4K running the shadow app.  The start and select buttons (or whatever Microsoft calls them) wouldn’t work.  Usually I would just forget and reconnect the device for it to work but now it doesn’t want to work at all.  Any chance this is a shadow issue or a TVOS issue so I can get it fixed?  The service works great otherwise but one of the reasons I got this service was to stream it to my TV so I DEFINITELY want this issue fixed.

Same here with PS4 controller on Apple TV. The problem does not occur on IPhone.

Hey,

Inside the Controller Menu you can see that they now provide a Layout configurator for Controllers and the only Button that left are the Start and Select Button.
I hope it is possible for the shadow Team to get the signals of those buttons and link it inside the Shadow App.

Hi,

yes, I also noticed that the two buttons are not included in the configuration menu of the Apple TV. However, the button codes seem to arrive in the Shadow app anyway. You can call up the Shadow quick menu by pressing Start + Select at the same time. And that also works without any problems.

Somehow I’m unable to download the Beta, also I do not prefer to switch to the beta version every time I start Shadow (do not want to use them on my other devices.

I’m still having this issue (for a few months now) with the latest official Shadow Apple TV app, Xbox controller view & menu button not working. When will the official Shadow Apple TV app be updated with this fix? Thanks!😊
