Greetings Shadowers.

This post is for all the people wanting to play Genshin Impact.

I sent an email to Mihoyo asking if the game would run on a virtual machine. Here is their answer.

Greetings Traveler!

Thank you for contacting us. ۹⌤_⌤۹

We regret to inform you that the game is currently not available to Virtual Machines. We kindly ask for your understanding.

Please stay tuned for future announcements through our official channels..

We thank you for your support. Please feel free to contact us once again

for any other inquiries or concerns. Have a nice day! (´v`)

I watched hours of YouTube videos. I have read hundreds of pages about

the game. I took part in all the events. I saved my money to spend on

the game and I planned a whole week after the game's premiere.

Shadow PC is my only platform for gaming.

Sadly I and all people out ther using Shadow PC will not be able to play :(

Edit:

I should have posted this in the gaming section.

I have no interest in this game, but I wouldn’t write it off completely yet. Asking a generic question like that, does not necessarily bring a complete answer. Most “virtual machines” do not have modern, capable GPUs dedicated to them, and that might play a role in their answer.

Valorant’s Vanguard anti-cheat variant was specifically designed to not work in any virtual environment, so that one has an explanation.

Rockstar seems to be “punting” on RDR2 running in virtual machines, but I don’t think there has been evidence that the problems are specifically related to virtual machines in a general sense.

The TL;DR is probably going to be, there will be no real confirmation one way or another until the game is released.

I have tried to play it with Shadow on the Chinese Open Beta going on currently, and it’s not working.

I wouldn’t be all too hope depriven yet, tho, because MiHoYo is also responsible for Honkai Impact 3rd. They also got a PC client, which at the beginning didn’t work at all for me, but nowadays I can play HI3 just fine on Shadow.

It will be a game of luck with Genshin Impact I’d say.

sigh And I am still installing it too. Well, Ill keep it on the disk anyway, and hope miHoYo changes their minds, because I would love to play this game without it crashing (yes, I tried it on my local laptop and it crashes/freezes pretty often)

damn bruh I just wanna play the game… :(

the crack version may work, but who is gonna crack a f2p game...

I highly doubt a crack version is possible, due to having to be logged into their servers and literally having a ping counter on the top left means the game cannot run without the server-side of things, and well, we can’t get hold of their servers to use with the cracked version so yeah.

So update: I made a post on the Genshin Impact forums about this:

https://forums.mihoyo.com/genshin/article/23959

I added my two cents to your post. I’m a web developer and I can’t understand with the tech that now exists why they would restrict this. I can’t understand the technical reasons behind it. Let the software attempt to run on anything. if the system can’t handle it (virtual machine as well) then it will crash and all you need to do as MiHoYo is simply state we don’t support virtual machines. You don’t restrict them you simply don’t support them.

@ZeckSegur I’m under the impression that they are willfully blocking virtual machines, because they could potentially be used to hack lootboxes and such. If one were to be able to run the game in a VM, and also have access at the hypervisor level, it would be possible to interrogate the “innards” of the running code and such much easier than with a physical computer.

This isn’t applicable to Shadow and other cloud gaming services, since “we” don’t have access to the hypervisors themselves. But, these services are “babies thrown out with the bathwater” in the scenario.

This just means that everyone needs to just make sure to never play anything by this developer until they can figure out how to work on Shadow. Idiots.

still didn’t Works for me

Is it possible to use a VM inside a Shadow? If so, what if you used the fix on that VM inside the shadow and then ran Genshin Impact inside it?

It’s not possible...nested virtualization is disabled in the hypervisor. Your Shadow is a VM, by the way.
