Issue using mouse & keyboard through USB on iphone 8plus

I have a usb combo keyboard/trackpad I can plug into my iphone, and while it works fine on the phone itself, when using the Shadow app on my phone the keyboard doesn’t seem to be recognized. The trackpad allows me to move the cursor around the shadow and such, but I can’t seem to do any typing. Is there something I can do to address this or is this an issue that would require an app update to resolve?
