Shadow in a linux VM

I am trying to run Shadow in a debian buster VM, but when I click “Start now” I get error R-300. This is with both ShadowBeta.AppImage and Shadow.AppImage.

I think the issue is there is only software video decoding in the VM, maybe Shadow on linux requires hardware decoding?

I don’t think that what you’re trying to do is possible. While I know virtualization within virtuaization is possible, I don’t think Shadow is enabled to do so. Remember that Shadow is a VM in itself and given that it prohibits VMs to run in it, it wouldn’t surprise me if it stops itself from running in a VM.

Sorry, I was unclear. I want to run the shadow client in a linux VM, not my shadow server.

For example, Stadia and GeforceNow have (browser) clients that work in linux VMs with pure software video decoding only.

You need HW accelerated video decoding, for the linux client vaapi. If you manage to get that working in your VM the shadow client should work.
