What device & client gives best results?

From reading some posts, not all Shadow clients are created equal?

Do any of them support 4k, HDR and surround sound?

If so, for that client, what silent device would be capable of handling the 4k video stream without issue and also output HDR? And has support for wireless gaming keyboard and mouse?

I have an Apple TV 4k, but don’t think I can use a keyboard and mouse with it?

If building my own PC, does anyone know what kind of system offers a silent GPU with 4k HDR support? And would I have to look for something special to have surround out, or will that be on every motherboard?

Alternatively, if the Mac client is good, what is an Apple Mac Mini capable of in terms of output?

Finally, is anything in HDMI 2.1 spec relevant to Shadow, or is it just a simple constant frame rate (60Hz?) video stream that HDMI 2.0a devices can handle?

  • If the client device supports 4K (UHD), it is supported. Note that the Boost tier is not recommended for 4K.
  • Shadow does not support HDR yet, unfortunately.
  • You have many options for a “small footprint” device, in addition to your Apple TV...such as a mini PC or an Nvidia Shield.
  • If you want surround-sound, your local device(s) will need to support it (specifically multichannel PCM). Many GPUs with an HDMI output will support it, but you also need to have a capable sound system to connect to.
  • HDMI 2.1 is not relevant, currently.

I play on apple tv 4k. All you need is a bluetooth keyboard also mouse. After that you will be good to go. to play on the apple tv.

Hi, all the info I could find like this and this suggested mice aren’t supported on Apple TV.

Can you tell me exactly what mouse you are using and how you got it to work?

If you go under settings you can search for bluetooth. After i did that my stuff was working. As for keyboard i got a cheap one off Amazon. For chat i just use my Chrombook next to me to run discord. But that is the only way i could do voice chat. I will go home tonight take a look at what i can get to work.
