As it’s one of the biggest releases of 2020, and one of the most demanding and beautiful, I thought it’d be good to have a discussion going!

I’m personally having little luck! The full install is a massive 152Gb, which unfortunately is greater than the (roughly) 125Gb you have available with Shadow if just keeping the essential files. Doesn’t look like additional storage is available at the moment so I’m out of luck.

Has anybody else had any joy with it? Would be a great title to show off :)

for me i’m still waiting for the activation in the next couple of weeks (hope so...) for the additional storage as i see it they will not be available for some great amount of time, they are still struggling with the activation and the client are still rising up. The 256gb that they offer is barely sufficient for one open world game i guess nothing more :/ !!

Are you serious the 256gb is depleted by the windows install literally the only reason I am waiting from may to October is to play flight simulator. If that's not an option I will cancel no point really for me otherwise

I’m having trouble pre-loading it. It says my Shadow hard drive isn’t NTFS formatted but AFAIK it is…..??

With no games installed, I don’t believe you have only 125GB to spare...that sounds awfully low. The OS overhead isn’t that much. I’ll look later for a more realistic number, but you may have some disk cleanup to do.

Edit/Update: I keep my disk space cleaned regularly; if I were to delete all of my installed games, I’d have 218GB of free space, out of 255GB total. So Windows + some misc stuff is consuming ~ 37GB for me.

Sounds like this workaround will still be needed, for the larger “allocation unit” size Shadow uses:

Thats the clincher for me the workaround seems awfully complicated.

Yes, as one of my old colleagues used to say, “this is a stupid problem to have.” It’s unclear why Shadow is using a non-standard “allocation unit” size, but equally unclear why that’s a problem for some MS Store games. It might get sorted prior to October w/o the need for the workaround, but hard to say.

There are going to be a lot of unhappy campers if this workaround is required to run this hot new title.

Same issue here i'm so angry !!!!!!

@Itachidu86 did you see the link in my reply to peanutismint above?

Yes but i found a solution myself !

You just have to formate your disk and it works. Thanks to god i have 2 disks on my shadow PC ! JUST CHOOSE NTFS AND 4096, that's all 👍

Thanks - I downloaded Treesize and immediately saw the problem. The issue is that I have some old games installed via GamePass to Program Files\Windows Apps. Although the games have been uninstalled I don’t have permissions to remove these files.

I’ll try and reset the desktop to factory settings, but even then I’ll need to deal with the NTFS issue!

How are you all finding the game?  I am on Boost and i am finding the game very juttery, intermittent frame reduction etc.  What settings are people using?

I had a problem getting it to even start, kept saying that the device wasn’t connected or something close (I should’ve taken screenshots). I got around this by shutting down then booting back up.

Next issue was the 90Gb update needed that wanted me to put it on the C: drive which would have left me with less than 30Gb left. To fix this I had to replicate the folder structure on my target drive then click browse and follow the folder tree until I got to the last folder before it would accept.

Currently waiting on the download to finish. I know I’m lucky in that I have ultra + an extra 512Gb storage but my C drive currently sitting with 122Gb free without me trying to save space so should be possible on a clean shadow :fingers_crossed:

PS Just realised I hadn’t mentioned NTFS. I know it’s not the same with the C drive but when my addition storage was setup I installed my adobe stuff etc then realised it wouldn’t work with the stores=I fixed this by resizing and then partitioning the “free” space as a new drive that I then formatted for Store games.

Hello, little bit slow but it's okk ! I will play more and tell you What i really think about the game.

Using ultra settings I’m currently getting solid 30-35fps not the best but smooth enough for just looking around and general flight. I have been flying in my local automatically generated area so I suppose it might drop in one of the other areas.

To view fps go into general settings then select developers then switch on dev mode you then get a title bar menu with options including show fps.

Hey Shadow Team,

whats the problem with this NTFS-thing.

Today i deleted my favorite games to play Flightsimulator, but then my Shadow cant deal with this.

Thats totally uncool, please fix this!

I hoped to update the OP with install guidelines but it seems like I cannot edit posts!

NTFS install bug from Microsoft store - https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowPC/comments/h0pifp/xbox_game_pass_and_ntfs_error_workaround/

Have removed lots of games but still not enough disk space to install MS Flight Sim - likely you have games still installed in WindowsApps, which is a protected folder

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-delete-windowsapps-folder-windows-10

(Just remove the games, nothing else)

When installing from Microsoft Store you get 0x00000001 error:

I think that after there have been replies to a post, the editing function for that specific one goes away.

I contacted support and was advised to try creating a VHDX and then point the Xbox App to install to the D: (or whatever you set it as) drive. I also had to change the default location for installation for new downloads from the Microsoft Store.

It is now past the first phase of installation and is downloading all the update/install files.

Create VHDX (I did self expanding 155GB)- https://www.windowscentral.com/how-create-and-set-vhdx-or-vhd-windows-10

Change default Xbox App installation folder:

  • Go to Xbox App click avatar (top right)
  • Settings
  • General
  • You can change the default installation on this screen

Change Microsoft Store app installation location:

  • Start Menu
  • Settings
  • System
  • Storage
  • Change where new content is stored
  • Change under ‘New apps will save to’

I am going to suspend the install and will resume tomorrow when I can wiggle the mouse every 29 minutes while it installs throughout the day.

Shouldn’t have to do this, but at least it appears this is a sufficient workaround to get it up and running.

Obviously, for those with extra storage, you can just format your drive and re-point your storage folders. I haven’t got (and cannot get at the moment) extra storage.

Hope that helps.

Ultra settings & 1080p on the standard ShadowPC package :)

Framerate is OK for just playing around, though I haven’t gone anywhere other than my hometown.
