Red Dead Redemption 2 - Game crash from main menu

Red Dead Redemption 2 - After recent patch game crashes from main menu when choosing Single player, Multiplayer or Settings. It affects all of the shadow users I believe and some other unlucky folks. Im honestly surprised its not a thread here yet. There is a lot of threads on steam and other forums. 

My copy is thru Steam , but I believe it doesn't matter much

Any recommendations online were not able to resolve this issue incl:

Editing settings. file to switch DX12 to Vulkan and back 

Windowed or fullscreen

HDR On/Off

Async On/Off

Reinstalling whole game 

Reinstalling / updating drivers 

Logging in under new user 

Run as administrator (game wont even start)

Running game in Offline mode - Forever loading screen

Windows Event viewer doesnt show any reason for app crashing.

Literally nothing works, last update just bricked the game completely for us 

My only guess knowing shadow system is some kind of game/online protection that now affects Shadow remote machines. 

I submitted a ticked to Rockstar. Hope we can find a resolution instead of waiting for another RDR patch.

Other people that don’t have Shadow also have problems with the game. As far as I know, Rockstar Germany acknowledged the issue and are working on a fix.

Thanks for that info Lily, I hope they will get it resolved. Just wanted to post it to Shadow forum also because from my understanding it affected everybody who uses Shadow, correct me if im wrong guys. 

 

Thats the only game I wanted to play recently, I even bought a TV to use with shadow on the day they released the update! Really bad timing I guess =D

Not everyone, but the majority indeed, sadly. And yes, hopefully, they fix the game soon.

I just wanted to confirm that I too have this issue. And I too went through a long list of possible fixes with Rockstar Support, without effect. 

The third Rockstar rep I had contact with (on the third day of trying) confirmed the issue with Shadow was know and being worked on, whatever that means.

Same here. I got my shadow activated yesterday, bought the game today just to figure out that all those fixes don’t help and I can’t play the game. Truly sad. Bad I suppose it helps if we all open a ticket with R* customer support.

Tried Stadia in a meantime, in give 60fps at 1080p which is not bad BUT it looks like a blurry mess with compression blocks and ugly color bands all over the screen especially at night or dark scenes. 

Took me an hour to figure out how to use Stadia pro 4k (upscale 1440p) on MAC (VP9 codec is not available on Mac), looks a bit better but 30fps is unplayable for me. 

 

Praying on Shadow guys, but seems like no RTX Titan for us until 2021 or further…

130mb Patch came in today, hoped it solved the issue but game still crashes when going into settings/story/online…

Seems like it did not, but PS4 users are in the same boat now and it crashes all the time also. Good job Rockstar.

I have the same issue. Rockstar support told me they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. Just bought the game yesterday and haven’t been able to play yet, this is really frustrating.

I’m having the same issue 😞 it’s my first time using my copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 and I haven’t unlocked online yet and when I attempt to go into story mode it just crashes.

For me rockstar wasn’t helpful at all, they kept repeating the same stuff. This was two weeks ago, hope they have a better clue about what's going on now.

Yep saeme here; I’ve informed Rockstar of the issue and they are aware of it so I hope if enough of us report it they will bump it up the priority list.

Heard from R* today that Shadow is not officially supported and they narrowed the issue down to only happening on PC users running the game through Shadow. I.e. they aren’t going to fix it, so is Shadow working on a solution to this? The roll back patch that ran today was only for PS4 and Xbox One, the online issues where not a problem for PC, so no PC patch released. If not there is no point in my membership anymore and I would like to cancel if Shadow doesn’t plan on fixing this.

That would really suck if they didn’t fix it for Shadow users. Is there no way to roll back to a previous version that works fine? This is what I hate about modern gaming. You never really own a game that you can play “forever“, you kind of just are paying to rent it for as long as they decide to keep it working with your hardware… even games that were built to run on Windows 95 in 1996 still run fine on today’s machines so they really have no excuse.

I opened a Shadow support ticket and they replied that the issue has also been noticed outside Shadow on native PC systems, they basically passed the ball to Rockstar telling me to take it up with Rockstar support :expressionless:
I have an active support thread with Rockstar support, but it’s going nowhere at the moment they suggested all the moves you find online which don’t fix the crash we’re experiencing from the main menu.
