New update dropped today, still broken for me.

yeah… its still broken writing with the support sending him the msi blablabla i think we need to wait 1-3 months

I know this is tinfoil hat territory but I feel like with this happening right after adding the cloud gaming tags to steam and this being a Stadia exclusive there’s a good chance that R* nerfed VM’s on purpose to keep it exclusive. We’ll see though, I’m hoping for the best since I bought the game through a third party seller specifically for Shadow just to find out after activating the key that it won’t work.

I highly doubt Rockstar is going to fix this. Otherwise they would have already done so by now. They just don’t care about us.

This marks the end of rdr2 on Shadow

I received a response from R* yesterday. (after 3 weeks of waiting for an answer on my incident ticket)

They told me that they’re working on a fix for Shadow users.

R* :
“We are still working to find a solution for the crash issue on Shadow PCs for Red Dead Redemption 2.

We understand that this can be extremely frustrating for your gaming experience and as gamers we can only sympathize.
Unfortunately for a game of this size, fixing a bug can be tricky, which is why not all problems resolve as quickly as we would like

We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience caused, and thank you for your understanding.”

Ugh, I have this SAME problem.  I used to be able to play it fine when RDR2 first came out.

I downloaded it a couple days ago hoping to play with a friend and I cant load into the story mode or online mode or even get into settings. I tried so many fixes but nothing worked.

Anyways, I know shadow has an update in a couple days, does anyone know if this should fix it?

Or is it completely up to Rockstar? If so, I hate to say it, but I don’t know if it will ever be fixed :/

Red Dead Redemption 2 - After recent patch game crashes from main menu when choosing Single player, Multiplayer or Settings. It affects all of the shadow users I believe and some other unlucky folks. Im honestly surprised its not a thread here yet. There is a lot of threads on steam and other forums.

My copy is thru Steam , but I believe it doesn't matter much

Any recommendations online were not able to resolve this issue incl:

Editing settings. file to switch DX12 to Vulkan and back

Windowed or fullscreen

HDR On/Off

Async On/Off

Reinstalling whole game

Reinstalling / updating drivers

Logging in under new user

Run as administrator (game wont even start)

Running game in Offline mode - Forever loading screen

Windows Event viewer doesnt show any reason for app crashing.

Literally nothing works, last update just bricked the game completely for us

My only guess knowing shadow system is some kind of game/online protection that now affects Shadow remote machines.

I submitted a ticked to Rockstar. Hope we can find a resolution instead of waiting for another RDR patch.

I got my working, Steam version gotta downgrade. https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowPC/comments/ice4so/temp_rdr2_crashing_fix_on_shadowdowngrade_guide/

This is great, but I bought the game from a CD Key site or something which led to the Rockstar Launcher version of the game instead of having the Steam one.  Also, I assume this workaround doesn’t apply to the online portion of the game (which despite its flaws was honestly fun even despite the hackers, it was boring anyways and they made it more interesting).  Oh, look at me, talking about red dead 2 in the past tense.  Oh how times have changed rockstar.

Still broken for me, I uninstalled today just to free up space.  Will reinstall again once I see update patch news or a forum thread with a fix.

I just got this reply on my support ticket at support.rockstargames.com

After reviewing your issue we believe that it may be a result of attempting to run the game under a virtual machine. We do not provide support for virtual machines and suggest running the game outside of a virtual environment.

Best regards,
Rockstar Support

They know I’m using ShadowPC… so I think it’s dead to see one day a new patch to bring back the game.

Same here, this makes Shadow’s answer (basically “see with Rockstar, not our problem”) invalid.

Shall we all contact Shadow again and insist that Rockstar does not provide support for virtual machines?

While I applaud the enthusiasm, i dont think us or shadow can do anything about forcing rockstar to fix their game.    I am still in the camp it will work again after the next patch, but thats just me.

Stadia is surely virtualized, yes...but uses a proprietary Linux system for the execution of the games. Because of that, it is not the same “code base” used for the Windows PC game platform. In other words, games running on Stadia are specifically written/modified to run on that system.

With Shadow, we’re running the same versions of PC games that are installed/run on any other Windows system.

It does appear that Rockstar is attempting to “punt” on this Shadow issue, at least for now.

pareil c’est inadmissible de la part de R* tous ce que peut faire shadow c’est leur mettre la pression! j’ai récupérer une ancienne version de rdr2 complète mais des que je modifie un seul fichier la mise a jour se fait donc impossible a lancer.

Still the same issues.  Played around with updating windows and geforce manually and had no luck

Great, just purchased RDR 2 via Epic Games and could not start the game once. Exactly like others said it crashes without giving any error to the desktop when trying to open anything, Story Mode/Online or even Settings. Wasted like 5 hours of my life trying to figure out, what causes the crash, when I found out it is my shadow..

There was a new update today.  Did that fix things for anyone?

I just got my stream refund yesterday so I haven't tried yet.

I wish I could try it, but it takes so much space on the HDD I had to delete it to play something else lmao

Does not seem to be working after the update

RDR2 is on sale now on Stadia, i took the plunge but it doesn’t look that good compared to even the base PS4 version but it runs at 60fps though.
