Red Dead Redemption 2 - After recent patch game crashes from main menu when choosing Single player, Multiplayer or Settings. It affects all of the shadow users I believe and some other unlucky folks. Im honestly surprised its not a thread here yet. There is a lot of threads on steam and other forums. 

My copy is thru Steam , but I believe it doesn't matter much

Any recommendations online were not able to resolve this issue incl:

Editing settings. file to switch DX12 to Vulkan and back 

Windowed or fullscreen

HDR On/Off

Async On/Off

Reinstalling whole game 

Reinstalling / updating drivers 

Logging in under new user 

Run as administrator (game wont even start)

Running game in Offline mode - Forever loading screen

Windows Event viewer doesnt show any reason for app crashing.

Literally nothing works, last update just bricked the game completely for us 

My only guess knowing shadow system is some kind of game/online protection that now affects Shadow remote machines. 

I submitted a ticked to Rockstar. Hope we can find a resolution instead of waiting for another RDR patch.

130mb Patch came in today, hoped it solved the issue but game still crashes when going into settings/story/online…

Other people that don’t have Shadow also have problems with the game. As far as I know, Rockstar Germany acknowledged the issue and are working on a fix.

I got an answer from Shadow.


Simply exposed them my situation, can't to play RDR2 through Rockstar Launcher, no more.
The told me it was for Rosckstar's fault due to new update. And simply it is their charge to find the way to fix it !

So i guess we won't get help from them..

Sadly. I got shadow in order to play RDR2.. I don't ever know which game would make shadow usefull..


I think all that Shadow (Blade) can do, is “push” things from a business perspective….and perhaps give Rockstar personnel access to a Shadow system for behavior observation. The technical side of it needs to be addressed by Rockstar themselves.

I just wanted to confirm that I too have this issue. And I too went through a long list of possible fixes with Rockstar Support, without effect. 

The third Rockstar rep I had contact with (on the third day of trying) confirmed the issue with Shadow was know and being worked on, whatever that means.

That would really suck if they didn’t fix it for Shadow users. Is there no way to roll back to a previous version that works fine? This is what I hate about modern gaming. You never really own a game that you can play “forever“, you kind of just are paying to rent it for as long as they decide to keep it working with your hardware… even games that were built to run on Windows 95 in 1996 still run fine on today’s machines so they really have no excuse. 


Talked with R* again about rolling back manually and they said there is no way to roll back. They said it is on Shadow to fix.

Not remotely interested in playing the online version, so cannot see what the issue is with the anti-cheat - why can’t we play in offline mode? Am so annoyed that Rockstar do not seem to be doing anything about this. I purchased on Rockstar launcher, so cannot revert to an older version.

Class action wouldn’t cut it - there’s not enough of us and they say they don’t support VMs. We need Shadow to work with Rockstar (which they are according to the link a few posts back) but are they really doing enough? There’s a link to the old roll back for those who bought on Steam, but that’s no use for many of us.

It may well be the very last time I ever purchase a Rockstar game - I have totally lost faith in them as a company.

While waiting for the patch, steam users can downgrade their RDR2 client for solo play.

Thanks for that info Lily, I hope they will get it resolved. Just wanted to post it to Shadow forum also because from my understanding it affected everybody who uses Shadow, correct me if im wrong guys. 

 

Thats the only game I wanted to play recently, I even bought a TV to use with shadow on the day they released the update! Really bad timing I guess =D

Likewise. While I now use it for other games, it was the primary reason for signing up. It’s very disappointing.

Hello guys, it seems like this Problem will not been solved in near future.

I wrote to Rockstar Support too and linked to the Steam forum

And got 3 Answers after the first two answers from Rockstar:
1. “Unfortunately we have no information on this. We are sorry that we cannot answer your question.”
2. “Unfortunately, we actually have no further information on this. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.”
3. The last Answer was then from a Tier 3 Support Member

Does rockstar want to earn money with this move? By selling licenses for cloud computer systems? :thinking:
The game worked before the patch and i don't understand what kind of problem they have…
Can we finally pick our torches and pitchforks to storm rockstar's headquarters :grimacing:.
Or at least start a petition / class action against them? Rockstar wants to fool us.

Yep saeme here; I’ve informed Rockstar of the issue and they are aware of it so I hope if enough of us report it they will bump it up the priority list.

What about for the Rockstar Launcher version of the game?

I know this is tinfoil hat territory but I feel like with this happening right after adding the cloud gaming tags to steam and this being a Stadia exclusive there’s a good chance that R* nerfed VM’s on purpose to keep it exclusive. We’ll see though, I’m hoping for the best since I bought the game through a third party seller specifically for Shadow just to find out after activating the key that it won’t work.

I highly doubt Rockstar is going to fix this. Otherwise they would have already done so by now. They just don’t care about us.

I received a response from R* yesterday. (after 3 weeks of waiting for an answer on my incident ticket)
 

They told me that they’re working on a fix for Shadow users.

R* :
“We are still working to find a solution for the crash issue on Shadow PCs for Red Dead Redemption 2.

 

We understand that this can be extremely frustrating for your gaming experience and as gamers we can only sympathize.
Unfortunately for a game of this size, fixing a bug can be tricky, which is why not all problems resolve as quickly as we would like

Still not improvment ? I bought the game on instant gaming too so i can’t have refund…. It’s the last game of Rockstar that i buy !

Yeah, main reason I signed up for Shadow. Granted, it works well, but I’m really only using it for MSFS 2020 now, but RDR2 was the whole reason I signed up. If infinite isn’t available by the time my 12 months comes around, I’ll be cancelling and just building a gaming PC. Or will just use Xbox Series X.

For this game, I’m considering trying a cracked copy to see if that works, as ultimately, I own the rights to play the game and we don’t know what component is causing the issue. All I want to do is to be able to play story mode.

Tried a clean install today. Still no use.

Same here. I got my shadow activated yesterday, bought the game today just to figure out that all those fixes don’t help and I can’t play the game. Truly sad. Bad I suppose it helps if we all open a ticket with R* customer support.

Seems like it did not, but PS4 users are in the same boat now and it crashes all the time also. Good job Rockstar.
