What Games Do We Officially Support?

First, let’s make things right. Shadow is not a library of games. And that’s a good thing. Because it’s much much more!

Why? Just because.

But also:

👉 On Shadow, you can play any game from Steam, EpicStore, etc. pretty much any game launcher you like!

👉 You’re more of an Indie game player? We’ve got you covered: you can download your favorite games on Shadow!

👉 And of course, do much more than gaming. But if you’re here, we bet you already knew that!

So yes, Shadow can support pretty much any game under specific conditions: as long as Shadow meets the hardware requirements for a specific game and the developer allows virtualization, we’re all set!

That being said, you wanted us to publish a list of games that we tried on Shadow. Unfortunately, we don’t have someone (yet?) to try ALL the games that exist on Shadow (if we do, please help me get that job). In the meantime, here is a list of popular games among Shadow users:

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

  • League of Legends

  • Grand Theft Auto V

  • Fortnite

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

  • Destiny 2

If you try a game that isn’t on this list, please let us know in the answers below!

Hi there ill throw in my opinions of what runs great,

  • Witcher 2 ( the only thing that might make this awkward is in steam when you click the file from the quick launcher in Shadow on say a mobile phone, it goes to a desktop mode where the separate Witcher launcher opens and on a tiny screen can be awkward to click play again :D)
  • Dota 2 ( it had 6ms ping in your Paris servers in game  however this isn’t representative on the ping the player would feel as we are streaming the desktop itself)
  • Monster Hunter world
  • Apex legends
  • Dark souls 3
  • Terraria

Basically I have the thought that with a troubleshoot any game I throw at it will run even if the settings have to be lowered.

P.S. - I’m on the most basic shadow package and it runs most things at a high-Ultra detail at 1080p :)

We set up an IRacing Rig on Shadow with a ghost, Logitech steering wheel, 65” curved Samsung TV, and a Playseat. Works pretty darn well but we are having Audio issues with Headset and Microphone. Ghost does not seem to recognize headsets with Microphones built-in.

I started using Shadow to play Cities: Skylines! because my personal computer (just a work Macbook Pro) could barely keep up even on small cities. For a long time, I was considering building my own PC, but just couldn’t find the time. With Shadow, I was able to start gaming right away, crank up the settings, and actually enjoy the game!

Rocket League works great and the ping from Shadow’s NYC Datacenter to most of RL’s East Coast servers is around 7ms - 10ms

It should be pointed out that while in theory any game can be played on Shadow, some games will not work for some reason, and those games' developer are unlikely to provide support for your Shadow. The example I have in mind is the remastered Assassin's Creed III. (And, apparently, it used to be the case for Odyssey as well).

On a positive note, and to add a couple of games to the ones being suggested, I've enjoyed the hell out of Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey on Shadow. Both thoroughly recommended.

  • Civ 6
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Banished
  • Tropico 5
  • Witcher 3
  • Dota 2
  • Warcraft 3 Remastered

I’ve been playing Escape From Tarkov and it plays very well

@Conor  what are your setting for RDR2 ? Are you running it ultra ? I am on shadow boost (quadro p5000) and I was wondering if the little lag I see is because I overall don't have a smooth experience with Shadow on other games (like warzone) or if it's because of the game settings

I haven't managed to get the GOG launcher to work it throws an error and works on my plain laptop just not on . But other than that all the launchers seem to work and I haven't found a game that doesn't work yet.

@Iamf7o I do run it at ultra, because after doing some experimenting I was never able to get 60fps no matter what settings.  Ultra I get around 35-40fps, and on lower settings I was getting a max of like 40-43.  I’m guessing its CPU bottlenecked and thats why the changed settings makes such a minimal impact.

I don’t really have any lag in my games unless I’m playing on wifi.  In my experience shadow 100% needs to be used on a wired connection for quality play.

AC:3 Remastered is not compatible tho.

Games that have worked for me so far:

rise of nations

streets of rage 4

mechwarrior 5

ori will of wisps

stellaris

civ 5

deep rock galactic

minecraft dungeons

Minecraft with shaders works fine for me, using Boost. Depending on the mods I'm sure it could get a bit laggy if they are super extensive.

Also, Valorant is a no-go right now (not due to Shadow, but Riot Games).

I feel like the games you can't play on Shadow, like Valorant would be a much shorter list, but here's what I've played.

Rocket League

SUPERHOT VR (Oculus Quest + Virtual Desktop)

The Lab

Grand Theft Auto V

Star Citizen

Boost:

COD WW2 - pretty much maxed at 60fps

Halflife 2 - maxed

Starcraft 2 - maxed

Age of Empire Definitive Edition - maxed

Assasins Creed Origins - maxed 60fps

Basically anything I have asked it to play it will play.

All of the games I have attempted to play have worked flawlessly (I have Boost btw). Here are some of them that haven’t been mentioned yet:

  • Minecraft (Even Modded MC with over 200 mods runs with consistent 60+ FPS with OptiFine)
  • Borderlands 2
  • Call of Duty: World at War
  • Dead by Daylight
  • Skyrim Special Edition
  • Team Fortress 2
  • Payday 2

I've, also, been playing Star Citizen on Shadow.

Tips:

#1 - If you're getting an installer error from the launcher during download/install you'll want to install the game in a directory outside of the “Program Files” folder. Alternatively, you can create a virtual hard disk and install the game there.

#2 - Unless you are located very close to the Shadow server array, it's probably best to avoid game interactions  like fps and dogfighting. This goes for any game mechanics that requires near zero lag. At least until technology catches up and destroys the nightmare that is latency.

As an addition, I had great experiences so far on my Boost with:

  • Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
  • Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight
  • TrackMania² Stadium
  • Call of Duty 2

Latency for me hasn't been too bad here or there I get input lag but I can play FPS fine and be competitive. SC is laggy to begin with are you meaning latency is bad with star citizen or and FPS in general?
