Hello everyone (and a happy belated 🎃Halloween), This is Raphaël, your product manager for the Shadow App for Oculus Quest - aka Shadow VR (Alpha) -. It’s been a bit more than a week since the app was released in its Alpha state and I wanted to thank you all for trying it out. It’s given us some great insights so far, and it’s going to help us even more moving forward.I was happily surprised to see more than 1,200 of you fine folks downloaded the app in the first week. Cheers! Thanks to your help, we've already confirmed and identified root causes for common blockers such as: being stuck on “starting Shadow VR” landing on a zoomed-in 2D desktop environment But also other major issues like: the overall lack of fluidity of the head movement the update time when changing devices So thank you to all you stubborn people out there who keep trying to help us find these issues! :) We are also happy to see that most of your positive feedback mentions good hand tracking and latency, as w

Hey dear friends of VR,In the first week of March, Facebook made some changes to their Quest Virtual Reality Check (VRC) Guidelines that affect the future of the Shadow VR App.They are just guidelines you say? Well sadly, unlike the parley, those ‘VRC’ Guidelines are actual rules that should be followed if you want to publish an app in Facebook’s Oculus Quest Store and App Lab. The changesAmongst the changes of the guidelines are changes to the aspect of streaming VR content to the Oculus Quest 1, as well as Oculus Quest 2 which have the biggest impact on the rollout plan and accessibility of the Shadow App. Quote: “Applications that stream interactive, immersive VR content may only do so from a local PC that the customer has physical access to.”This means that Shadow won’t be able to publish the Shadow VR App on the Oculus Quest Store or the App Lab for as long as the guidelines are in place and formulated as they are. What now?Nothing will change for now.We will of course continue
Hi All, I’m relatively new to Shadow VR + Quest 2-- I've got my setup working well with a few things, like HL: Alyx and Google Earth. I've been trying to make Elite Dangerous work, but anything I try I get zero control response from the controllers. The only thing I can do is bring up the SteamVR menu and quit. It starts up with a regular menu, but I can’t select anything or do anything. I got it in game once by starting in 2d and switching to VR, but again, zero control response through the touch controllers. Also worth noting that I get similar (lack of) response using the ShadowVR app and Virtual Desktop, despite a few attempts at restarting and installing everything from scratch.
I recently discovered Oculus Quest 2 systems have hand tracking available out of the box, but upon trying to launch Shadow VR, it forces me to switch to controller. Is there a way around this?If not, is it a planned feature Shadow VR will have as it develops?Thank you for your time.Madeline (HoneybeeSorceress)
Hello, so I tried playing shadow vr today and it worked but I realized I was on the wrong steam account so I switched the steam account and clicked on start steam vr again and it got hung on Starting Steam VR Services and just sat there. I dont know what to do I have been troubleshooting for hours.
My Shadow Vr app hangs and stops responding anytime I try to start shadow Vr. Initially I believe I had an older version installed up until yesterday, which when I tried to start shadow Vr and play it would just say it was updating, load from zero to 100, and then go back to zero and repeat. Is there anything I can do?
Disclaimer: This is a community workaround (not official). Please advance at your own risk. Since about 30th June, people using the Paris datacentre have been experiencing really high latency but only while using Virtual Desktop or the VR app and not while using the desktop or mobile app.If this is what you experience, try this simple fix!If you just get a high ping in general, this will likely have no effect. Step 1: On your Shadow, Open Settings (shortcut: win+x, n) then click "Network & Internet" Step 2: Click “Change adapter options” Step 3: Right click "Ethernet" and click "Properties" Step 4: Click "Configure…" Step 5: Find “Large Send Offload V2 (IPv4)” and change “Value” to “Disabled” The stream will break, so quit Shadow (Win+Alt+Q) and reconnect. Quit the Virtual Desktop Streamer app and re-open. Enjoy VR streaming without the insane latency! If this doesn’t work, try disabling “Large Send Offload V2 (IPv6) too. Many thanks to @Jamielamb#0279 on the Shadow Discord #vr
Hey guys, Got my Shadow this weekend. Installed Steam, Steam VR, updated drivers using Nvidia experience. When I would start Steam and SteamVR, it would pop up saying something to the effect of the headset was ready to use. I don’t recall having to do anything extra to get it to that stage. Everything was working great using the Shadow app on Quest 2. Suddenly today, I try to launch ShadowVR on the Quest and it hangs on “Starting VR service.” That’s when I notice that Steam VR says “Please plug in your VR headset” now. I wanted to try just re-installing Steam and SteamVR but that was being a little goofy. So, to be on the safe side I decided to just reset my whole Shadow and do the entire process over again. Unfortunately, I still can’t get SteamVR back to the point where it’s recognizing the headset. I tried installing the SteamVR beta but no dice. I also tried installing the Oculus app to see if that would somehow help. Is there some sort of key step that I accidentally did the first
I want to congratulate Shadow team. Shadow VR works really great. It’s impressive how Shadow VR has evolved on time. I hope you don't stop developing this absolutely great technology.I think it would be useful to create a guide for new users on how to take all advantage of Shadow VR.I have a question, how can we use a steering wheel, a joystick or a gamepad throug Shadow VR? for example to use a steering wheel in Asseto Corsa at the same time I use VR.Thanks, and please continue this great job!!!
I had this problem on 2 different shadow configurations where I couldn’t manage my password using netplwiz. This is not convenient for VR as you might know, and I have never saw anyone fixing this problem so I just wanted to show this fix I found, because I realy think it should have been added to the tutorial. So some people are able see the checkbox when they op netplwiz:But some other people newer configurations don’t see that. The fix I found was opening Registry Editor: Then paste “Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device” in the top bar: Dubbleclicking “DevicePassword...” and changing the value form “2” to “0”: At last, open “netplwiz” (again): Now the checkbox will appear: I would hope this could help some people out.source: [Fix] “Users Must Enter a User Name and Password to Use This Computer” Checkbox Missing in Windows 10 – AskVG
Starting Friday 29 October I can't switch to VR mode using the VR Alpha app for Quest 2. I noticed this happened after Shadow installed an update that day. I checked that I'm using the latest Shadow VR Alpha app from Sidequest (3.7.3 of 12 October). Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a workaround or should we wait for a fix?
In the step 6 of the vr set up it says you have to disable password windows log. And in the walkthrough it is really straightforward it seems you just have to take off the checkmark. But on my system I don't seem to have the checkmark that says "users must enter a username and password to use this computer" do yall have any idea why? Ps when I try to start the vr it just brings me to the 2d desktop
Hello fellow ShadowVRers !Here is the situation : I’ve got Shadow VR working with my Quest 2, now I’d like to be able to play Elite Dangerous … the thing is I need my HOTAS controller in Shadow VR.First thing I tried was to connect through my local PC with the standard Shadow app in order to get the USB forwarding, but of course only one client connexion is allowed, so obviously when I tried to connect through Shadow VR I got kicked out from the PC app and lost USB forwarding.Next I figured I could manually forward some USB devices to my Shadow using some kind of software (which one ?), so I did setup a VPN client to connect my Shadow PC to my local network. Stupid me. Note for later: never *ever* install a Wireguard client on Shadow PC, now I’ve lost connexion and I need to reset to factory settings. Nevertheless maybe a solution using SSH forwarding. So here is my question : is there (or will there be) some standard easy way I did not think of to connect local USB devices to the Shado
Hello, I recently got a quest 2 and managed to get steamvr working on it by sideloading the shadow pc beta app with sidequest. It's very cool and working pretty well at the moment, but I have a kat walk c (omni directional treadmill) coming in a month or so and can't seem to find any advice on how to set it up with a shadow pc. Has anyone managed this or have an idea how it could work? Thanks for your help!
New to shadow Been trying to get shadow VR to play cars 2. The streaming is great but I have no controls. Won't pick up my g920 (shadow pics it up no problem on normal mode). Anyone have the same issues? Using VD is just too laggy to be enjoyable..not sure what I'm doing wrong. It seems that shadow VR streams directly to the quest and don't go thru the PC so it can't see controls or usb accessoires.. hope someone has a fix. Thanks
