Shadow VR alpha // News from November the 5th! (05/11 -11/05)
Hello everyone (and a happy belated 🎃Halloween), This is Raphaël, your product manager for the Shadow App for Oculus Quest - aka Shadow VR (Alpha) -. It’s been a bit more than a week since the app was released in its Alpha state and I wanted to thank you all for trying it out. It’s given us some great insights so far, and it’s going to help us even more moving forward.I was happily surprised to see more than 1,200 of you fine folks downloaded the app in the first week. Cheers! Thanks to your help, we've already confirmed and identified root causes for common blockers such as: being stuck on “starting Shadow VR” landing on a zoomed-in 2D desktop environment But also other major issues like: the overall lack of fluidity of the head movement the update time when changing devices So thank you to all you stubborn people out there who keep trying to help us find these issues! :) We are also happy to see that most of your positive feedback mentions good hand tracking and latency, as w

Shadow and the Oculus Quest StoreNews
Hey dear friends of VR,In the first week of March, Facebook made some changes to their Quest Virtual Reality Check (VRC) Guidelines that affect the future of the Shadow VR App.They are just guidelines you say? Well sadly, unlike the parley, those ‘VRC’ Guidelines are actual rules that should be followed if you want to publish an app in Facebook’s Oculus Quest Store and App Lab. The changesAmongst the changes of the guidelines are changes to the aspect of streaming VR content to the Oculus Quest 1, as well as Oculus Quest 2 which have the biggest impact on the rollout plan and accessibility of the Shadow App. Quote: “Applications that stream interactive, immersive VR content may only do so from a local PC that the customer has physical access to.”This means that Shadow won’t be able to publish the Shadow VR App on the Oculus Quest Store or the App Lab for as long as the guidelines are in place and formulated as they are. What now?Nothing will change for now.We will of course continue
Shadow VR "login failed"
Hi folks:Like many others, I can login to regular Shadow just fine. But when I try to login to SHADOW VR on my headset, it always says LOGIN FAILED. I’m *positive* I’m typing in the correct username and password. The only solution I’ve seen posted here is “hit the login button multiple times”. Tried that too.Help!-Kurt

Shadow VR just does nothing and just goes back to home almost immediately.
I just bought my quests 2 a few days ago and just subscribed to shadow as well. I’ve followed the following instructions exactly.-Installed Shadow VR from Sidequest on my Oculus quest-Downloaded Steam and installed SteamVR on my Shadow-Launched SteamVR on my Shadow from my PC and went through all potential updates and pop ups.-Set Steam to launch with Windows / remember password-Launched the Shadow VR (alpha) app from the unknown sources app of my Oculus Quest-Entered me Shadow login credentials (code) and authenticated my Headset as a Shadow device-Clicked Start Shadow VR button. Then it loads for about 5 seconds… then goes back to the shadowvr home screen. Steam VR does not load. I click it again it it just keeps doing the same thing.. Basically a failure loop. If i go into 2d view it tells me to put my headset on. It actually seems to be detecting my headset, just not that it is on.I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything and I get the same issue. The strange thing is if I

Please improve performance
Hello,It’s been more than 1,5 year that I got my Oculus Quest 2 Headset.I tried the vr app lot of time ago both official and beta and performance was a total disaster.Eample:SteamVR→ Even in the main menù with no game running, there was a really annoying lag and that is one of the less intense network-demanding parts. In game for example SuperHot VR, except for the big lag, grabbing and controls didn’t work right. After this first attemp, I bought Virtual Desktop, which seems the solution everyone recommends, and it actually give a really smooth experience, except for some occasional connection drop. Video is smooth and I can play likely realtime.I didn’t gave up on the shadow app, and each 2-3 months I kept coming back to it.But beside some minor changes in options and so, nothing really changed in terms of performance. It’s still terrible and unplayable and far from its competitors.Maybe you should have a talk with Virtual Desktop team and integrate their video codec or technol
Tunelling USB devices to Shadow VR ?
Hello fellow ShadowVRers !Here is the situation : I’ve got Shadow VR working with my Quest 2, now I’d like to be able to play Elite Dangerous … the thing is I need my HOTAS controller in Shadow VR.First thing I tried was to connect through my local PC with the standard Shadow app in order to get the USB forwarding, but of course only one client connexion is allowed, so obviously when I tried to connect through Shadow VR I got kicked out from the PC app and lost USB forwarding.Next I figured I could manually forward some USB devices to my Shadow using some kind of software (which one ?), so I did setup a VPN client to connect my Shadow PC to my local network. Stupid me. Note for later: never *ever* install a Wireguard client on Shadow PC, now I’ve lost connexion and I need to reset to factory settings. Nevertheless maybe a solution using SSH forwarding. So here is my question : is there (or will there be) some standard easy way I did not think of to connect local USB devices to the Shado
Controller in the wrong location
When I play phasmophobia using the ShadowVR app my controllers are near my feet and I can't change their position, only their rotation. When I press the menu button on the oculus it shows the controllers are in the correct position, but the game won't accept it. When I tried this game on virtual desktop I didn't have this issue but virtual desktop has proven to be unreliable when connecting to a pc so I would like to be able to do it through shadowVR. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a fix for it?
GAMEPAD not supported OCULUS QUEST 2 VR
Bought Shadow Subscription to play Oculus Quest 2 VR,,, Steam VR games... to find I cannot play racing games... because GAMEPAD is not supported !!. They tell you, subscribe to Shadow and you will have use of a full GAMING PC and be able to play all the games you own on Steam VR through your Oculus Quest 2... Well, I cannot,,, its not true. I have three times now asked them for help with this,,, but they don't respond, just ignore me... They need to fix this issue.. I only just subscribed a few days ago,, but going to unsubscribe... as Shadow does not support GAMEPAD in Oculus Quest 2 VR ! and its very very very bad that they just ignore me about this...
Another game broke.
So I used to use this app to play Iron Rebellion, which used to function properly. A little bit ago I loaded up this app for the first time in a while only to find out when I play Iron Rebellion, the virtual in game hands are stuck in a position under the menu options and I can't lift them, making it so I can't select menu options. This game USED to work but now it broke for no reason and I have to say I'm EXTREMELY DISSAPPOINTED as now I don't know what games of mine may just stop working tomorrow. :/
How do you fix the controller binding in SteamVR Games like Boneworks and Skyrim?
So I’ve tried to play SkyrimVR and Boneworks on ShadowVR. Initially thought it might have been the Skyrim or connection issue since my controllers kept working weirdly. But today I downloaded boneworks and the controllers completely don’t work. Tried to use a different controller binding for the game as how others fixed their controllers on plutosphere but still nothing. The controllers are stuck and also my field of view is terribly limited. When I move my head around rapidly, I could see the black spots at the corner of my eye. Not sure if anyone has these issues as well. Quite disappointed as I had high hopes. I’ll be trying with VD and shadow PC next time but if anyone know how to fix this, it would be great.
Shadow VR Not Working
Hello, so I tried playing shadow vr today and it worked but I realized I was on the wrong steam account so I switched the steam account and clicked on start steam vr again and it got hung on Starting Steam VR Services and just sat there. I dont know what to do I have been troubleshooting for hours.
ShadowVR Controller Help
Hi All, I’m relatively new to Shadow VR + Quest 2-- I've got my setup working well with a few things, like HL: Alyx and Google Earth. I've been trying to make Elite Dangerous work, but anything I try I get zero control response from the controllers. The only thing I can do is bring up the SteamVR menu and quit. It starts up with a regular menu, but I can’t select anything or do anything. I got it in game once by starting in 2d and switching to VR, but again, zero control response through the touch controllers. Also worth noting that I get similar (lack of) response using the ShadowVR app and Virtual Desktop, despite a few attempts at restarting and installing everything from scratch.
