06/22 Weekly Post: Shadow Boost Activation Update

Hey Team Shadow,
 

Welcome to this week’s update on Shadow Boost activations!

Last week we noted a change in messaging from “End of Week target” to “Target by next Monday’s update. Though this seems to have helped some, introducing ‘Monday’ into the mix added confusion about the purpose of the section. Going forward, we’ll use “Target by Next Activation Update”, to help smooth things out.
 

As a reminder:
-We activate Monday through Thursday

-Beginning at 8am local time each day for each datacenter

 

Last bit before the update. For our European activations the team was able to identify edge cases and other irregularities that led to some orders being missed. The team will prioritize activating those groups of users for this week, before moving further along in the overall queue.


EDIT:
Unfortunately activations for users before May 26th at New York/Chicago/Texas will be delayed. Our teams are working to send dedicated emails to each impacted users with more details by the end of the week.

EDIT #2:
All impacted users should have received their dedicated email with details about the delay and an updated delivery timeline of Early July.

If pre-order date is before May 26th:
Delayed to Early July

If pre-order date is between May 26th - June 1st:

Activation by July 23rd 2020

If pre-order date is June 1st or later:

Activations starting from July 2020

Target by next activation update:
Latest activation has May 2nd pre-order date


 

DALLAS:

If pre-order date is before May 26th:
Delayed to Early July

If pre-order date is between May 26th - June 1st:

Activation by July 23rd 2020

If pre-order date is June 1st or later:

Activations starting from July 2020

NEW YORK:

Its not their fault that there are unexpected delays. Because of COVID and having to keep within a certain distance of each other plus with some parts being hard to obtain delays happen. I am still waiting for my shadow to get activated.

 

I would be more sympathetic if they did any messaging what so ever BEFORE you click the buy button. I’ve been watching this service for months and finally New York was available to order not to preorder, not to hopefully one day maybe in the future some day maybe exist. No, when I clicked the go button it was to send them money and for them to turn on a computer. Then, after the transaction, they say “go join discord to find out when your activation will happen.” Yeah, in the past few days they have changed the front page to “preorder” but that is not what happened up front, and is a very recent change. They’re still running PPC ads. They’re still sending marketing emails. They’re still pushing their service across social media. They are doing everything in their power to increase preorders without being upfront not about the fact that your are preordering but about the fact that they have absolutely no idea when or if they will ever be able to fulfill the order. That’s the issue with these pieces of shit.

NEW YORK:

If pre-order date is before May 26th:

Can you please explain how NY activation before May 26th will be done by end of June (which is now only 8 days away), but you are only able to activate 2 days worth of pre-orders each week? Last week the update was through May 5th. This week, through May 7. At this rate, my pre-order from May 19th will be later in July (if not August), not by the end of June.

Hey JimK, thanks for the great question. Your observation is astute regarding previous activation rates versus recent ones. This applies for the New York, Chicago, and Texas data centers, which unfortunately we were over-optimistic about the rate we’d be able to activate at through June. 

We’re working to directly email each impacted user soon with an updated activation timeline and other pertinent details. We’re sorry for the delay as we know you and the others waiting are excited to get your hands on your Shadow. Know that the team is hard at work on speeding activation rates up again as quickly as we can.

Thank you for that update. I do appreciate you keeping us informed. That said, though, telling us a day after your update that June is not likely for the majority of May pre-orders is not transparency. What would have been better was to inform those of us affected before the update came out and include that information in the update. We would probably be less likely to keep asking.

 

I am disappointed that you’re unable to make the June date for my pre-order. Not sure I want to wait until August, and I don’t think I’m going to believe a July activation until I see it.

This is unfair honestly. I order on May 12. Why are people who signed up latestst get theirs first and those who ordered earliest get their last?

we should get rewarded or something. Like if you agree!

@RyanFromShadow I understand that delays happen but a little transparency would go a long way right now. Can you tell us how many activations are in the queue for each DC as well as a list of the specific challenges you're facing?

If the project was delayed by a few days I dont think anyone would really care but it looks like you guys are nearly a month behind. From the outside with little to no information it makes Shadow look either incompetent or at the very least poorly managed. Transparency would go a long way to fixing that.

You can hardly imagine the mood of the people we booked in May.  The message "will be activated at the end of June" has been delivered for a long time.  When we waited for a month, we suddenly knew that we would not be activated at the end of June, and we did not receive any delay notifications, but the current message is still activated at the end of June.  Of course, you don’t have to worry, then you may not be affected by COVID-19.

Been patiently waiting a month, and now im told ill have to wait another additional month. Expect a email from me once the 7 weeks are up.

Hey Spacetrain, yes, preorders made on June 1st or later for the impacted DCs are still on track for July. This delay is related to a storage order delivery from our partners being delayed, but the size of that deployment will allow us to activate according to our schedule. It is unfortunately those that ordered earliest that bare the brunt of this delay, which we are sorry for. Thanks for the great question.

I ordered on may 8th, I understand this is upsetting, its upsetting for me and all of us and no we weren't aware this was going to take this long and clearly the shadow team wasn't expecting this either BUT we need to remember that you are NOT paying for this time that you are waiting, its not like you are loosing money waiting, you have to be patient because complaining and getting upset about it will not change anything or make it go any quicker. They are doing what they can and i still cant wait to get my shadow, keep your heads high people!

Same. And it’s sucks we have to come here to search for an update when they should send out emails. Hell I still haven’t recv an email for the newest update. It’s a lose lose situation here. I’m not complaining but then again I did put money towards it. If I’d new it was gonna take this long I wouldn’t even got it.

We ordered May 13th, we are July 04th, what is the f**** problem bro?

  • Okay, you've got a lot of orders,

But what the hell, you can't give your customers the information to keep them informed about their situation? I didn't get any information except a "general" email telling me, we'll be late, and that's a month later. 
 

It is now July 4th, when is my SHADOW going to be activated? Is it possible to have a date? In 2032? When will COVID-45 come out? You think you can activate our shadows before GTA 6 ?
 

I have a big community on Twitter and Youtube, and believe me, I'm going to give you some nice publicity.
