06/22 Weekly Post: Shadow Boost Activation Update

Hey Team Shadow,
 

Welcome to this week’s update on Shadow Boost activations!

Last week we noted a change in messaging from “End of Week target” to “Target by next Monday’s update. Though this seems to have helped some, introducing ‘Monday’ into the mix added confusion about the purpose of the section. Going forward, we’ll use “Target by Next Activation Update”, to help smooth things out.
 

As a reminder:
-We activate Monday through Thursday

-Beginning at 8am local time each day for each datacenter

 

Last bit before the update. For our European activations the team was able to identify edge cases and other irregularities that led to some orders being missed. The team will prioritize activating those groups of users for this week, before moving further along in the overall queue.


EDIT:
Unfortunately activations for users before May 26th at New York/Chicago/Texas will be delayed. Our teams are working to send dedicated emails to each impacted users with more details by the end of the week.

EDIT #2:
All impacted users should have received their dedicated email with details about the delay and an updated delivery timeline of Early July.

CHICAGO:

If pre-order date is before May 26th:

If pre-order date is between May 26th - June 1st:

Activation by July 23rd 2020

If pre-order date is June 1st or later:

DALLAS:

Can you please explain how NY activation before May 26th will be done by end of June (which is now only 8 days away), but you are only able to activate 2 days worth of pre-orders each week? Last week the update was through May 5th. This week, through May 7. At this rate, my pre-order from May 19th will be later in July (if not August), not by the end of June.

Good luck getting an answer to the NYC datacenter question about activation.  I was in the Twitch community chat stream last week and asked similar questions and was completely ignored.  The last 3 weeks - each update - suggests they are only getting through 2 days of activations yet they claim they’ll have all of May done between May 29-30?!  Not buying it.  Would appreciate an honest answer.

The information on Santa Clara is contradictory. You have activated people who ordered as late as June 15th yet claim that people who ordered after June 10th will only get activations in July. 
 

For New York, you are aiming to activate preorders made until May 7th by Thursday. This would give you exactly 6/29-30, two days, to activate all preorders from May 8th and 26th for those to still happen by end of June as stated.

The claim is similar for other days centers. I would really appreciate if you could clarify.

@RyanFromShadow I understand that delays happen but a little transparency would go a long way right now. Can you tell us how many activations are in the queue for each DC as well as a list of the specific challenges you're facing?

If the project was delayed by a few days I dont think anyone would really care but it looks like you guys are nearly a month behind. From the outside with little to no information it makes Shadow look either incompetent or at the very least poorly managed. Transparency would go a long way to fixing that.

I ordered on may 8th, I understand this is upsetting, its upsetting for me and all of us and no we weren't aware this was going to take this long and clearly the shadow team wasn't expecting this either BUT we need to remember that you are NOT paying for this time that you are waiting, its not like you are loosing money waiting, you have to be patient because complaining and getting upset about it will not change anything or make it go any quicker. They are doing what they can and i still cant wait to get my shadow, keep your heads high people!

I appreciate everyone’s comments.  Unfortunately, I’m afraid they fall on deaf ears.  We have a “Community Manager” who has literally only made 10 replies - the last one being more than 6 days ago.  That’s pretty shameful! Additionally, Shadow staff never responds to the comment thread on these activation posts all while continuing to provide misleading updates.  Shadow’s got a great product but their customer service and communication is severely lacking.  They can do better!

 

Additionally, if you reach out to Shadow Support about your activation date because these posts are so misleading you’ll be given a completely different answer.  I was quoted a June 26th activation date for a May 30th preorder.  How does that work?!  

 

It would be helpful if Shadow would quit talking out both sides of their mouth and give us an honest answer.

I don’t understand the logic from a business perspective of not adding enough hardware to the datacenter to handle new paying customers, and instead having potential customers leave while waiting.

 

What is the bottleneck at the datacenter keeping Shadow from adding more capacity?

 

Why can’t shadow be honest and accurate with their estimates. I am patiently waiting to be activated on the NY datacenter, and now days before that’s supposed to happen there is suddenly an unexpected and totally unforeseen problem. I’m not buying that for a second, please just be honest with potential customers and give us an accurate estimate for activation.

I can't wait for next week's update when we're 2 days away from July and they're still saying they'll process 25 days worth of activations by the end of the month.

I agree with this poster. You should not post these long term dates if they are not even remotely accurate. If you get only 1 day of activation done a week fine; but please do not mislead people who are thinking they are getting the shadow this month when clearly they are not. Also there is an additional wait behind the activation. *Your shadow is being prepared* I am currently one of those people. Posters are sometimes waiting weeks for this while seeing the subscription start. I had to contact support to clarify that the days SHOULD correct itself when you are fully activate. I would appreciate not to be misled. You have a great product but need to communicate better. Thanks!

I myself am also trying to remain patient and positive as I can understand how time consuming it is setting all of this up, not to mention trying to get the additional hardware from whomever they purchase through. I work for a significant hardware manufacturer and I can tell you there are several parts delays due to COVID. 

 

To the Shadow Team, I know you’re all doing your best and it is greatly appreciated, but I think the lack of transparency and communication is impacting everyone more than our Shadow PC’s being ready.

i dont know if they're activating still, or if im just gonna have to wait another month.
i was so close to getting my shadow activated, only at least 9 more days till the end of the month and now theres a higher chance ill get activated in july or later.
its very fustrating to be told that your shadow will be activated june 2020 and waiting till the very end of june, only a week left to be told that its going to be delayed.
a moderator on the discord estimated 5-8 weeks and now its looking more like 8-13.
ive been waiting 7 weeks, ordered may 6th, chicago.

Hey JimK, thanks for the great question. Your observation is astute regarding previous activation rates versus recent ones. This applies for the New York, Chicago, and Texas data centers, which unfortunately we were over-optimistic about the rate we’d be able to activate at through June. 

We’re working to directly email each impacted user soon with an updated activation timeline and other pertinent details. We’re sorry for the delay as we know you and the others waiting are excited to get your hands on your Shadow. Know that the team is hard at work on speeding activation rates up again as quickly as we can.

Thank you for that update. I do appreciate you keeping us informed. That said, though, telling us a day after your update that June is not likely for the majority of May pre-orders is not transparency. What would have been better was to inform those of us affected before the update came out and include that information in the update. We would probably be less likely to keep asking.

 

I am disappointed that you’re unable to make the June date for my pre-order. Not sure I want to wait until August, and I don’t think I’m going to believe a July activation until I see it.

I ORDERED ON MAY 14TH FOR NY BOOST SHADOW, AND STILL HAVE NO ACTIVATION OR EMAIL INFORMING ME OF THE DELAY, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

I appreciate the update, but at this point, is the July 2020 timeline still accurate for preorders on June 1st or later for the Chicago datacenter or are we more than likely looking at sometime in August?

Hey Spacetrain, yes, preorders made on June 1st or later for the impacted DCs are still on track for July. This delay is related to a storage order delivery from our partners being delayed, but the size of that deployment will allow us to activate according to our schedule. It is unfortunately those that ordered earliest that bare the brunt of this delay, which we are sorry for. Thanks for the great question.

We ordered May 13th, we are July 04th, what is the f**** problem bro?

  • Okay, you're having problems with COVID19.
  • Okay, it takes you some time to install the PCs,
  • Okay, you've got a lot of orders,

But what the hell, you can't give your customers the information to keep them informed about their situation? I didn't get any information except a "general" email telling me, we'll be late, and that's a month later. 
 

It is now July 4th, when is my SHADOW going to be activated? Is it possible to have a date? In 2032? When will COVID-45 come out? You think you can activate our shadows before GTA 6 ?
 

I have a big community on Twitter and Youtube, and believe me, I'm going to give you some nice publicity.

I pre-ordered yesterday.. so it’s really demoralizing to see everyone’s comments having ordered months before me.. when they still haven’t seen it yet 🙈. Anyways should I expect to be activated before 2021 😂💁‍♂️

I'm in the Chicago datacenter and ordered on May 15th. The timeline says my account will be activated before the end of June. Does this mean I can expect to be activated before next Wednesday or will the timeline be updated again?

I asked the same. Ordered 11/4 on Paris, last week they said up to 5/4 and that is what they say this week. It’s as clear as mud, isn’t it?
