Please don’t die on us. I rely on Shadow for all of my gaming
Will this investment decrease the wait time for activation?? With such long queues for activation, i’m sitting on the fence at the moment, waiting it out or going elsewhere. (6 months to go for my “estimated” activation).
In the short term, it might make the queues longer. That’s somewhat guaranteed, unless some rich investor with more money than sense makes the debt all go away, with enough to pay for the servers to allow more people to come in left over.
What Blade Group are trying to do is keep all the people currently using the service online, and still using Shadow well into 2022 and beyond. Yes, I might not get a Ghost this side of Christmas, and any hope of upgrading to a higher tier is unlikely, but I’m an active asset right now.
People using Shadow now are effectively numbers on a balance sheet in the bankruptcy courts, but they’re assets that Blade Group won’t give up, As much as the next person, I don’t want, for my birthday, to be politely told to remove my files from the server since Shadow is closing down ‘soon’. But, be realistic, Saintly, and hope that you have an account to use next month.
Why don’t you open a fundraising? Maybe we could “invest” in your service.
for example you could create some investments tiers.
like, if an user invest 100$ or more dollar he/she will have the service free for some months as soon as you’ll up again financially speaking..

^ this. What shows once again (unfortunately) is that this business model simply does not scale. A game-only cloud service is inherently broken because about 80% of the people use the service at a fixed time frame every single day and it’s location dependent. It’s possibly the worst scenario from a utilization perspective if there’s no “business on the side” for all that compute power. And that at $11.99/month for a service that requires manual labor to activate.
I’ve purchased a new gaming rig upon hearing this news. I’m keeping my shadow for now, but it won't be my primary driver anymore. It’s sad, because Shadow was the first cloud gaming service that actually got it right and performed near bare metal.
Wow just watched the video and seen that the bankruptcy has been filed today.Seriously worried about this.They will need an investor with deep pockets I feel.Not sure if there is a way to make this profitable.
I am sure they will try their best .Damn shame and very sad about this.I am sure i am not the only one who has bought games that will only work on the shadow.Even sold my xbox and games play much better on the shadow than xbox one s (old one) really loving it .Its probably underpriced on boost i think a lot of us would pay a bit more if it helps.

I had a company that depended on subscription revenue and virtually no initial setup fee: it folded.
These types of companies take a very long time to become profitable because it takes an enormous outlay up front (hardware, employees to create the software and deploy the hardware, really high support costs at the beginning until the kinks are worked out).
But the revenue almost literally drips in at a measly few dollars per month.
Making things worse, adding more customers simply means spending MORE money. Typically, you want to spend 20 cents to make a dollar. In this model, it takes $5 to make $1. Until the breakeven point is met some far off point in the future, this model is a money pit.
Lots of companies have learned the hard way that subscription services are really difficult to make viable.
On the flip side, if there is a way to wipe away debt, the next investor can sometimes make the company viable because he/she gets the benefit of the prior money without having to pay it back.
I wish them all the best; it’s not a fun situation to be in.

Hopefully all of this means good things for Shadow and it’s customers. I use Shadow as my personal daily driver PC and not just for gaming so if it went away I’d be profoundly sad.

I use Shadow as my primary game PC, since I can't afford a gaming rig. However, I'd be more than happy to invest / fund the future of Shadow.
You do realize that a gaming pc, that is far better than boost, is less than 1000€ nowadays and with financing of ~40€/month, this machine is yours after 2 years?! + it has residual value.
Its sad that in 2021 there are not other virtual pc providers like Shadow. And Im not talking about GeforceNow and other “gaming” focused services, only.
What I personally need is a virtual pc for everything, Gaming, Rendering, CAD, Calculation, etc. Which I can use with an old, but still perfectly working silent notebook.
I would be ready to pay $50/month for renting a virtual setup which costs $1,800 (lets say Shadow Boost) if it would be updated once a year. I dont want to own the hardware. I just need the power - the service.
Buying a Notebook for $1,800 with i7, 16GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3070 8GB would be awesome.
But in 3 years, I would have to throw it away or sell it for $300. Then I would have to invest $1,800 in another contemporary performance.

Because the boost price is already way too low, that’s why we are sitting in this sinking ship.
To get guaranteed hardware upgrades every year, you have to increase your price way beyond 50$/month up to a point, where it makes no sense to not just buy it yourself.
At $50 a month most would just go for an xbox series X and for non gaming a cheaper machine would do.That is the problem there is a max they can charge a month before its not worthwhile. If you compare boost to a gaming laptop boost wins would cost at least 4 years of boost with 1tb storage to cover the price.There is no magic ,shadow would have to be paying substantially less for equipment than the public do to make this profitable in the long run.Ideally manufacturing it themselves.There is a reason this isn't a crowded market place.Eventually there will be cloud based services that don't even require you to own the game a bit like gamepass.You pay a sub and the games are free.Of course the shadow does more but is it enough.
