If you missed it, on September 6th, we announced all the juicy details about the Power Upgrade, new market openings, Shadow Drive’s soft launch, and more.

Power Upgrade

Pre-order details:

  • Pre-Orders will be available starting on September 20th, before the Power Upgrade gets globally availability on October 26th

  • Emails will be sent out in two batches for these pre-orders. The first batch will be reserved for those who have previously pre-ordered Ultra and Infinite but have never been delivered, before all people who noted their interest in the pre-ordered form shared back in May will be contacted.

  • The Power Upgrade pre-orders will work on a first come first serve basis, and we expect demand to exceed the available quantities. Check your inbox on September 20!

Early Access details:

  • Early access will be available in early October in limited supply and time.

  • The GPU for this Early Access will be an Nvidia A4000, an Nvidia professional card very close to the Nvidia A4500 that will be the one for the Power Upgrade. Check our benchmark assets for more details.

  • This Early Access will be available at the discounted price of $/€/£9.99 versus $/€/£14.99 for the general Power Upgrade. This discounted price will continue even once the power Upgrade is generally available.

  • We’ll be doing a giveaway of some Early Access slots for our community, so stay tuned for more details.

Performance Scores Benchmark:

  • Shadow: 1x

  • Shadow with Power Upgrade (Early Access): 1.54x the performance of Shadow

  • Shadow with Power Upgrade: 1.65x the performance of Shadow

  • We’ve benchmarked various games to ensure the best performance. Games tested on Shadow includes: StarCraft II, Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, Tom Clancy's The Division 2, Far Cry New Dawn, Final Fantasy XV, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Borderlands 3, and Forza Horizon 5

Launch details:

  • There’ll be a good amount of Power Upgrades available at launch, but we expect the demand to exceed the available slots. However, capacity will be resupplied every month or so

  • In most cases, when upgrading to Power, you will stay in the same data center, and therefore will not need to factory reset your Shadow. If you are coming from a different data center or if you are coming from Ultra and Infinite, your Shadow will need to factory reset, however. We will of course let you know ahead of migration.

  • If you downgrade from the Power Upgrade to the base Shadow subscription, your Shadow will need to be factory reset.

  • At the moment, the Dallas, TX data center will not have the Power Upgrade available in 2022 due to a data center incompatibility issue. We are working on a solution to bring the Power Upgrade to the Texas data center ASAP in 2023. Here are the impacted US states:

    • Arkansas

    • Kansas

    • Louisiana

    • Mississippi

    • Missouri

    • Nebraska

    • New Mexico

    • Oklahoma

    • Texas

New Markets

Coming Soon:

  • Austria and Canada - September 15th

    • Users in the vast territory of Canada will be able to find out if their connection is eligible for Shadow offers via a dedicated page available before launch.

    • The first people in each territory that will subscribe to Shadow will benefit from an Early Birds price, stay tuned for more details!

    • These two territories will get access to the Power Upgrade on October 26th as well

  • Italy - September 27th

  • Spain, Denmark, and Sweden - Coming soon this Fall

Shadow Drive

  • Now in soft launch only for former users of hubiC

  • hubiC will close on September 30th

  • We currently have more than 10k users in the soft launch and we’re excited to release Shadow Drive globally soon

  • Shadow Drive will be available for free with up to 20 GB of storage, while a premium version of the service will be available at $/€/£8.99 a month, with 2 TB available.

Release & Bug Fix

New releases:

  • We increased the idle time period of your Shadow depending on the time of day, giving you more time before the auto-shutdown is triggered when inactive.

  • New design for the Quick Menu to match the new colors and branding of the Launcher.

  • You can now use your gamepad as a mouse on the Desktop app.

Fixes:

  • Changed the inactivity detection when using a device plugged into a USB port, which now counts as being active

  • Fixed the inactivity banner that wasn’t systematically disappearing

  • Fixed the S:103 error that mainly affected Virtual Desktop users

  • Disk usage optimization fix is being deployed

Beta:

  • Android rebranding coming in September

  • iOS coming in October

Alpha:

  • Shadow’s new USB Management drivers will be released in Alpha soon. This will allow us to better fix USB issues and support more USB devices.

In the Works

  • Drag & drop feature. You can drag a file from your local device to your Shadow to transfer files.

  • Trackpad mode for the TV apps, where you can use your mobile device as a trackpad instead of a mouse

  • We have a lot of events and features that are being worked on. Stay tuned to our social media for updates in the future!

You’re joking. Why isn’t the Power upgrade available in Dallas?? It’s one of your most profitable data centers, and the main US Shadow data center.

Hi @bacob30, thank you for your enthusiasm for our Power Upgrade. We would love to bring the Power Upgrade to the Dallas, TX data center in 2022, but we cannot do so due to an incompatibility issue at the data center when it launches on October 26th. Our data center teams and partners are working hard on a solution to bring the Power Upgrade to the Texas data center ASAP in 2023. We are also exploring other possibilities, and will update in due time.

As a workaround, you’ll have the opportunity to subscribe to the Power Upgrade on a different data center. Please note, that your Shadow will need to be factory reset because of this.

hello, if I now have a regular shadow subscription, what should I do to switch to shadow boost. Second question, I live in the Netherlands and the data center is still in the UK, when will my shadow move to the nearest data center?

Got excited and now no upgrade for Dallas ? Also, early news was that the graphic card was going to be an RTX. What happened with that ?  The cost for those have dropped due to crypto devluation. Very disappointing. :(

You do realize that the a series is an RTX card?

Hey @kio, we no longer offer Shadow at the Shadow Boost pricing. Shadow Boost has been rebranded to Shadow, as it is the same hardware but different pricing. You’ll have the option to upgrade to Power instead in the near future.

If you are located in the Netherlands, your Shadow is actually located on our Paris data center. The Paris data center supports the following region: Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, UK, and Switzerland. If you are unsure which data center you are on, please go ahead and reach out to our wonderful Support Team from your account page so that they can share this information with you.

Hey @Fester, unfortunately the Dallas data-center will have compatibility issues with the Power Upgrade configuration when it launches on October 26. Our teams are working to solve the issues as early as possible in 2023. We are also exploring other possibilities, and will update in due time.

The Power Upgrade comes with an NVIDIA RTX A4000 for Early Access and the NVIDIA RTX A4500 both of which are RTX cards.

Sooo, about shadow launching in Austria and Canada on the 15th of September …. That would be TODAY and there is not a single bit of information about this out on the Website or on Twitter…

When can we expect the launch? What about those promised early bird discounts?

I didn’t know it was an RTX . Was on Dallas before, and also didn’t know Igot switched to different server. At least I’m consistent. Wrong, but consistent.

Ok that’s nice. I saw an earlier news, and missed the fact it’s an RTX. Thanks for the heads up.
