On last night’s Shadow News, Luc was joined by Ness Benamran, Shadow’s Head of Operations, to discuss the delays of Shadow Ultra and Shadow Infinite.
 



Ness is in charge of the deployment of the data centers. He spoke in detail about what was causing the delay and the new estimated time of delivery.

News

 

1) Cause of the delay

Shadow Ultra and Shadow Infinite is like a giant puzzle, where each piece needs to fit together or it will not work. Due to COVID-19, many pieces that are needed for Shadow Ultra and Shadow Infinite have been delayed. 

For example, due to travel restrictions, Shadow staff can no longer meet with their suppliers in Asia and the US. Additionally, Shadow staff cannot visit their own data centers. Due to supply chain issues, there is also very limited stock available. As a smaller company, Shadow has had trouble securing stock as big tech companies like Google, Apple, Amazon often have priority. 
 

2) Delivery date estimate

In the best case scenario, Shadow Ultra and Shadow Infinite will be delivered in the beginning of 2021. This is an estimate because it is really difficult to foresee what will happen in the next 6 months given the global crisis. Shadow staff are working day and night to try and prevent another delay. 
 

3) Shadow Boost impacted

Also due to COVID-19, there will be a slight delay in the delivery of Shadow Boost. This delay is estimated to be about 1 or 2 months. However, this delay is not at all connected to the Shadow Ultra and Shadow Infinite delays. 

 

Q&A 
 

1) What about additional storage?

Additional storage is a similar situation to Shadow Ultra and Shadow Infinite. We therefore cannot make a time estimate on when it will be available. 
 

2) What makes Shadow Boost easier to activate than Ultra & Infinite?

Shadow Ultra and Shadow Infinite are very new technology. Every piece needs to fit precisely in order for it to work, and we don’t have any backups if something were to go wrong, because it is so new. We have been working on Shadow Boost for a while now, so if something fails, we have more backup options to keep it running.
 

It is important to remember that this is a fresh delay. Shadow staff cannot report all the information right away, because there are a lot of moving parts. However, when more precise information becomes available you’ll be the first to know.

Funny how the community manager posted, it will be delayed to beginning of 2021...and now it turns out, that with a very high chance...nothing will happen in the beginning of 2021.

Well, it should be at least RTX3080 and Titan2 then, if it’s getting the beginning of 2021. Not bad lol

We are playing on a 4 year old GPU now, for sure the planned configs will not change, nor will the price.

I wish my only problem was playing on a gtx 1080 ti. Poor babies. 😂 My father might die of cancer, my sister has to have surgery, and a few of my neighbors died from covid but you guys have to play on a gtx 1080 ti! That’s way worse! 😭😭😭🤧

First it is below even a regular 1080.

Second, funny thing about humans, they always only start crying, if they are personally affected. There are hundreds of thousand of children starving every year, entire farmer families die, do you think there biggest problem is COVID, illness or a surgery(they never even would get due to lack of health care)? Did you ever care? Is a cloud gaming fee more important than saving an entire family? You see, not the greatest argument. There is always someone with worse problems than you anywhere on the planet. 

Anyway, wish you the best for your dad!

Oh yeah I never care when someone else is effected. That’s why I watch the news and aways end up turning it off with my blood pressure skyrocketed even though most of it does not effect me. That’s why I donate to people in need. Because I don’t care. Good job pretending you care about my dads well being as something you had to check off before leaving that comment. Where did you pick up this 1080 TI thing?

The Quadro P5000 is ~12% slower than a GTX 1080 and ~39% slower than a GTX 1080 TI.

Wouldn’t call 39% slightly.

In the email Greta sent out this week they have someone doing benchmarks on there shadow infinite!!!, So those of us that have been waiting since October last year are being told wait till 2021 but if your a influencer or whatever they call youtubers now you can have one right now apparently

Benchmarks are available for half a year already or even more.

If what you say is true, I honestly hope that people will cancel their preorders and show Shadow, that such a shitty behavior isn’t tolerated.

He clearly states he preorder in November and was enabled in March - before the covid issues.

So another 2 months have passed..not a single update was given.

 

What is the status?
Are hardware deliveries scheduled/done as planned?
Corona related delivery issues are gone for ages(which was named as a reason for the delay), why aren’t new people already getting activated, why is there no updates?
