We heard you, #TeamShadow!

Thanks to your continued feedback in the past weeks, we are happy to announce mouse & keyboard support on the iOS Shadow TestFlight app in this latest update (3.0.1).

Please note, you must have iOS 13.4+ installed on your device and we cannot support games that require the locked cursor feature.

Download the iOS app on TestFlight now

Other key updates:

  • PS4 gamepad users couldn't play some games, so we introduced the "Playstation extended compatibility". Simply choose this option in settings and it will work like a charm.
  • The first time you launch Shadow with this new update, you will be asked if you want it to handle your drivers. You can change this at anytime in your settings.
  • Many of you had issues trying to connect to Shadow, this problem has been solved. In the previous release, users encountered bugs or crashes when going from background to foreground. This is now fixed too.
  • Last but not least, some iPad users were stuck with 12 FPS. We also fixed this problem: you will now have 120 FPS and an overall better iPad experience with Shadow. Happy gaming, #TeamShadow!

Hey guys - first off - thank you for the quick turnaround in adding mouse and keyboard support!  I wanted to give some feedback - I am unable to get scrolling to work at all with the new beta.  Ive tried using the Magic Mouse 2, a Logitech MX2 mouse, Apples Magic Keyboard for the iPad, and a Brydge Pro+….and scrolling wouldn’t work on any of them.  This somewhat kills many games I play (as an example, in Star Trek Online I am unable to zoom in or out during Spacebattles, which uses scrolling) and that makes those battles highly unplayable.

Thanks again!

Thank you for the much needed update.

will try it out soon. I have only noticed that the apple pencil right click (tap & hold) stopped working and resting your palm on the screen while using the pencil doesnt worn anymore  the palm triggers mouse inputs

On actual pencil as mouse support:

double tap pencil and tap screen for right click never worked.

Resting palm on screen while using pencil worked

I don’t know when but at some point the lock screen (disable pinch to zoom) feature was removed from the shadow quick menu

Cool!

Anyone knows how to use ESC on a iPad Magic Keyboard (and probably other iPad keyboards as well)? There is no ESC key on this keyboard. Shortcuts I find by Google do not seem to work in the iPad Shadow app...

I’m not sure if you know that this is not a real mouse support or I should change something in the iPad settings. When I tried playing COD the mouse kept acting like a pointer, cursor look and behavior wise.

Right click seems to be working just fine, thank you!

I noticed the same in Fortnite. In-game the mouse was a cursor and did not function as looking around. It did function as looking when I kept pressing down left mouse button. So I could only look around while shooting .

I did not go into settings to check if I could change something because I could not get out of the game because there is no ESC button on the iPad keyboard...

go to ipad settings > general > keyboard >  hardware keyboard > modifier

and you can set the globe key to escape for example

My feedback using iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard Cover 4th gen

  • Scrolling does not work anywhere within Shadow
  • Tap to click works for left and right
  • Left click and left tap does not work in Total War: Three Kingdoms. One click/tap acts as a select. Double click actually triggers the left click.
  • Apple Pencil stopped working with the latest patch. (Palm detection stopped, cannot trigger right click by tap and hold). Double tap pencil to trigger right click never worked.

Thanks! This worked.

Did not find any setting in Fortnite that made the looking around work. I can see the normal iPad cursor when I am using Shadow. Not a standard Windows mouse pointer arrow. Only when I click or drag in Shadow Windows environment, I see the windows mouse cursor. That might have something to do with it?

EDIT: I just read this in the BETA description:

The locked cursor feature probably means what we need for FPS looking around to work?

Since I can’t edit an existing post on this thread:

Feature requests for the future

  • Stats/Monitor widget to display ping, latency, fps for the iPad client
  • Airpods Microphone support
  • Pencil support
  • Touch support
  • Built-in microphone & camera support.

It all works now! (Except scrolling)

Hey guys! I just got activated on my Shadow last night. I am primarily going to use my iPad Pro 4th Gen with the Magic Keyboard with trackpad, I will also be adding a mouse for gameplay. I just downloaded the TestFlight beta, and it all worked great except for the scrolling with the trackpad. Is that expected to be added? Thanks for adding the features so far!

iOS needs mic support. Is that being worked on?

The mouse and keyboard support for iOS is awesome and exactly what i wanted to see. Thanks! I’ll give you feedback once I have tried it out for a while. This is awesome news!

Does the mouse support include hovering/mouse over? If it’s supposed to, it’s not on my machine. 🙂 This is an essential part of many mouse-based games that I play, and the main thing that keeps them from being playable on iOS Shadow.

I’ve remapped the Capslock button to Escape which works amazing!

Mouse support is great, still rudimentary at this stage but really appreciated. Jump Desktop does this really well.

I think there is a technical limitation with Apple at the moment where it doesn’t allow developers to capture the mouse - First Person Shooters capture the mouse so it doesn’t track to the edge of the screen.

The mouse support is limited to left/right clicking for now. I know locked cursor is an iOS limitation, but hovering and scrolling are both supported by iOS 13.4+. I really hope support for these features will also be added.

I just ran into the same issue, the locked cursor did not work on the ipad, trying to play csgo. :(

Scrolling support is in with the latest testflight and it works with an external mouse (Logitech MX Master 2S)

the scrolling is inverted by default.

Touchpad scrolling with the keyboard still doesnt work

CMD key still triggers windows key

My mouse is currently configured for portrait mode, can’t find a way to correct the orientation so I can use the mouse correctly.

Does this mean we’re currently not able to play any type of fps games, or any games that requires a lock cursor to freely look around? Tried playing Destiny 2 and the only way to look around in game is by holding down the left mouse button and firing your weapon at the same time to do so.

Currently, that is right. I trust the team is working on this though. I know Apple does not make it easy. I dream of the day that I only need the iPad and a mouse, and good connectivity, to be able to play.

I believe this is the cursor lock function that they still haven’t implemented.  No FPS type games will work in it’s current state.

Just want to chime in and say thank you for the work on iPad mouse support! I see it is now in the production app and I just tried it with a Magic Mouse 2! I have left click and right click! I’ll be very excited when we get scrolling too

It’s still not working.

Disabling full keyboard access will enable the magic keyboard but not the magic trackpad.

Could you please send me a redeem code for the beta app? I tried to get it on Test Flight but it says the beta is full. Thank you!
