Hi all, On my chromebook I cannot seem to get shadow to work. I just get a black screen most of the time. In the occassions that I do get a working screen, it is way too laggy. It works fine on mobile though and I got it rinning perfectly on my old crappy windows notebook. Not on my chromebook however. With Android app ? I wonder if anyone on earth is having 1 good experience with shadow on ChromeOS... Well. I just use the Android app on ChromeOS to start my Shadow. To actually use the Shadow on my ChromeBook i use Chrome Remote Desktop. Downside is that Shadow not always regognize all user interaction and that makes the 30 min limit and shut down instead of hibernation very annoying. Nota bene: This makes the Shadow absolutely good enough for desktop work on a ChromeBook. But it is NOT a gaming solution at all.
Oh I know the reason. I just wish the PC would go into hibernation instead of shutdown. I actually cancelled my subscription due to this. Return of hibernation and some sort of remote desktop solution ( Chrome extension! ) since I really don’t need the streaming client anyway could make me come back.
Hello @dharvey86 thanks for reaching out to the new Shadow community, As stated by poker: There is a good workaround that works very well for me. Just using Chrome Remote Desktop instead of the Shadow App ( after starting the Shadow with the App ) works just fine. Officially supported or not. The Android version itself works very poorly on ChromeOS. This is correct. The Android version on Chrome OS is pretty not good, But there are some workarounds, the chrome remote desktop is slightly better, but remember to connect to a 5GHz network, it made a world of difference for me. Also try moving closed to your router and test some of your speed and packet loss, could be an internet issue if its constantly not working. Seeing how we have no current support for ChromeOS dont get to caught up in it for now, it might be a while before we do get support. For gaming purposes I suspect the Chrome Remote Desktop choice is almost as bad. But for regular desktop work
Yes. I don’t mind timers and who knows what is needed to handle the current situation. My problem is that I am now paying for something I have very limited use for. What would be nice is an option to cancel a long term commitment when the behaviour has changed so much. The company seems to have more than enough business anyway.
My problem is the new behaviour of Shadow. There very little that can be done to make it better as long as it is shut down and not hibernation. Therefore my question was if hibernation is within the plans when the current situation offers more reasonable possibilities. Else I will just have to terminate my subsciption and pay more elsewhere but get a usable service.
I use it as my regular computer. I have programs running that I want to use them within seconds when I return to the computer. Setting everything up from “zero” every time Shadow has shut down ( instead of just hibernating ) is a lot of work and hassle. Also the shut down doesn’t wait for programs to close safely so I have quite a few “rescue” files to handle when i get it up and running again. With hibernation I just had to log in and then everything was there. HUGE difference. I wouldn’t even mind a 15 min limit if it hibernated instead of the shut down. If I had known you would replace your hibernation policy with a Shut down policy I would have ended my subsciption in 3 seconds instead of upgrading to Infiite. NOT a happy customer!
Will the hibernation-funkction return when you lift the 30-min-limit back to normal grace period? At the moment my Shadow is close to useless to me. I don’t use it for gaming but rather as my regular computer and having it shut down instead of hibernating makes me having to set a timer for 25 minutes so I can remember to keep it alive. I have SOME understanding that there are technical problems you just can’t work around. But here you totally changed the behaviour of the service. I would never ever have signed up for a whole year if I had known this change!
