Hi,Currently awaiting my shadow boost activation I pre ordered in June for the October release with the intention of purchasing shadow ghost if and when it becomes available I see there is still no information on a release for ghost so I'm wondering what is the best way to run shadow from my tv would it be an nvidea shield? Also I was looking into purchasing Flight Sim 2020 has anyone had experience playing this game this far with shadow and has information on how it performs?
My Shadow was activated this week, pretty exciting! When I first took my PC over, I felt like there was over 200GB of the 256GB SSD available. I also added 500GB of hard drive storage. However, after installing just 2-3 small apps like 1 password, and one game (2013 Tomb Raider only 10GB), I am down to 170GB. Tomb Raider 10GB is the biggest thing I installed. I was staying over 200, and only noticed the 170GB after being away a few hours and doing a couple restarts. Could this be windows updates in the background or something that took all this space? How much space do you all normally have on a pretty much brand new Shadow PC? Finally, I will say it sure is cool to put Shadow in a Mac “spaces desktop” and quick key or mouse back and forth between Mac and Windows, you wouldn’t even know it’s a cloud PC! To follow up, it seems over 65GB of my space is in system files. Only around 14GB is to apps. Is that much in system files normal? Thank you.
FYI - If you have a monitor with a native resolution greater than 4096 in width, like an iMac 5k, or the ultra ultra wide 5120x1440 display, you may have found that you get an S:101 error if you set a custom resolution to match your display. This is not a Shadow limitation, but a limitation of the Nvidia encoder that is used by default. If you enable the low-bandwidth mode setting in your client, you can run Shadow at much higher resolutions. This setting leverages the h.265 encoding which requires a little more horsepower on your client, but having native resolution is worth it! Just make sure to set low-bandwidth mode on before setting the custom resolution or you will get a S:101 error. Enjoy your super high resolution Shadow!
Greetings, I just got access to my Shadow boost. I was wondering if users ran everything through the shadow or had things like discord still on their main device?I’m showing 30ms latency at the moment so I’m not sure how smoothly things are going to work when I actually launch a game.Any other tips for a noob?J
Reading about this advancement we can reduce the size of video decoding to half! AND HDR support! New technological news always gets me excited and thanks to Shadow I've recently developed a great interest in cloud computing. (signed up for computer science at college at the age of 27 😅) I've heard some talks that even thought the codec is announced it wouldn't be easy to apply/will take time to be adopted. As a person with great interest on this can we have a discussion on weather shadow can adopt this codec? What would it take? Time frame?. Looking forward to the discussion :D
Did the lightning hit the power network station? Update : my work place said they had a power outage… and all my co-workers during tomorrow’s shift including me have to arrive 30 minutes early because i cracked a joke of “sorry i’m late” meme, after my boss told everyone to come to work on time. whats the worst that could happen, and it happened. cracks a joke, and they took it seriously. “Think Before You Speak”, i know what it means now...
I’m not sure how many people notice, but as great a service as Shadow is, it is pretty weak when it comes to the color red. Encoding red seems to be a technical limitation, so a lot of the time reds will appear blurrier or look off both as game object/textures/etc and as just text. Even looking at screenshots with clear red text turn blurry sometimes in Shadow running at 1080p. This is not an issue associated with your internet speed or associated bandwidth. For example, this is how the global chat in Path of Exile looks naturally in Shadow: Now a lot of people wrote this off as just a technical limitation that should be lived with, and sure that’s a fine approach, but I did some tinkering. I found a fix, and the result was perfect: (Just a note, if you’re looking at this screenshot on your shadow, it may still look a tad bit blurry, but if you’re on your physical pc or phone/device it should look perfect) The fix? Change your shadow’s resolution but don’t change your game
First off I LOVE Shadow. I have a laptop but use a second monitor that makes it seem like it’s no different from running on desktop. I used to use Geforce NOW but it’s just nothing like Shadow as far as flexibility. I can play any of my Steam games whereas Geforce NOW does not allow it. My question: The option to enable low bandwidth mode says its not recommended for computers and devices manufactured prior to 2014. Is that the only reason why I would not enable it? Even though I have high bandwidth, if I can make the stream more efficient, why wouldn’t I enable it if my computer is younger than 2014? Does the stream quality get worse? Also another minor problem I had when signing up for the forum is that it asks me what subscription type I have. I don’t remember what I signed up for and the account page doesn’t seem to tell me, so I guessed. Just FYI
I am trying to use Shadow over my iPad with my Xbox one Bluetooth controller. The controller shows connected to the iPad over Bluetooth. However when I launch Shadow on the iPad I can’t seem to get the controller to work. Is this possible??? Any help would be great, thanks!
Just wanted to say I have been really enjoying Shadow ever since I signed up. Its allowed me to play VR games that I originally couldn’t on my Quest (Half-Life: Alyx). Look forward and can’t wait for the Quest app mentioned in the Road Map section. I am also playing some online games with friends that I haven’t been able to do in awhile due to my gaming rig going out on me. I continue to share info on shadow every time I get the chance. To me this is the future keep up the great work! *How do I sign up for the better systems? After signing up for boost I no longer see the option to upgrade or reserve the other options? Thanks!
Hey whoever is reading this lol, I made a Review Video for Shadow and my first year using it. Also using the Shadow Ghost. Thanks for taking your time to read this! One Year Shadow Review (second monitor) <-video (added timestamps) I also did an FPS test for GTA 5 because it is more of a graphically demanding game, and spoke about using a second monitor. ALSO, I run 70 MB/S because my internet performs well but I do reduce it depending on small issues I can run into.
Up until recently, Shadow only offered 256GB of Storage. However, you are now able to purchase more storage at an additional monthly cost. However, if you do not want to pay for extra storage, or still want to make sure you are making the most of available space on your Shadow, here are some quick tips on freeing up some space :). Tip 1 - Windows Updates This is a HUGE culprit when it comes to storage on pretty much any Windows 10 machine. When Windows 10 Updates, it creates a Windows.Old folder. This folder can have anywhere from 10-30GB (or more) of data in it. For Shadow in particular, you may need to update Windows the day it is set up, or soon after since it is running an older version. After the update, you may notice your free storage space drop a decent amount. Here is how you can delete that Windows.Old folder and other temp files to free up some storage space. How to delete old Windows Updates and other temp files Go to the Windows Search function, type in "Cleanup", an
Every few days while booting up shadow I see: “update in progress” either from the launcher or right before I start my shadow. WHAT are you guys updating? Seriously there are no new features and I'd have trouble believing there are that many bug fixes. If you are releasing bug fixes, where are the patch notes? people want to see their issues getting resolved via updates but there are NO PATCH NOTES. Why? Seriously every other software developer in the world has release notes. Please add your release notes so we’re not in the “shadows” about what's happening with these updates. It's a little frustrating. Note: I’m on beta, which is why there maybe so many updates, I dont care how many updates there are, my point is about no patch notes.
