Android - Bluetooth and wired keyboard don't work for games (help!)

I've tried wired and Bluetooth keyboards on Android (phone and tablet) and they work fully, until starting a game. Character keys don't register (WASD) unless I'm holding ALT. However, chatting in Overwatch works FINE! Just not for actually playing

Anyone else figure out a workaround?

(emailing tech support back and forth ended with them telling me to ask here)
