Is there someway to set up our Shadow so that when we turn it off it goes in the hibernation so it saves our machine state?

This used to be what happened and it would turn off only if the datacenter was being used too much, although due to COVID-19 they’ve had to disable this so it turns off after 30 minutes. There’s no workaround and trying to get around this is against their terms of service.

As mentioned previously, this 30mins is due to Covid-19 and it’s impact on the Shadow servers.

Which can be found here - https://community.shadow.tech/gben/blog/update/covid-19-impacts-on-shadow-regular-updates

Before this the idle timer would be 2hrs 30 to which the Shadow would hibernate or shutdown depending on if the hardware is needed.

Also written in the Terms of Service in the Servers section :

To ensure optimal allocation of its IT resources, Shadow® uses a remote computer automatic shut down and/or standby mechanism. In this respect, given that the User is warned in advance before Shadow® is shut down or put on standby, Blade shall not be held liable for the resulting loss of data.

My problem is the new behaviour of Shadow.

There very little that can be done to make it better as long as it is shut down and not hibernation.

Therefore my question was if hibernation is within the plans when the current situation offers more reasonable possibilities. Else I will just have to terminate my subsciption and pay more elsewhere but get a usable service.

If I had known you would replace your hibernation policy with a Shut down policy I would have ended my subsciption in 3 seconds instead of upgrading to Infiite.

I'm sure that a lot of things woud be different if people knew this pandemic was coming. Data centers in general have seen a major spike in load and are all having to make changes to how they handle things while things are the way they are right now.

Yes. I don’t mind timers and who knows what is needed to handle the current situation.

My problem is that I am now paying for something I have very limited use for.

What would be nice is an option to cancel a long term commitment when the behaviour has changed so much. The company seems to have more than enough business anyway.

When it is running the service is well worth the cost.

But as far as I am concerned I no longer can recommed Shadow to any one.

Will the hibernation-funkction return when you lift the 30-min-limit back to normal grace period?

At the moment my Shadow is close to useless to me. I don’t use it for gaming but rather as my regular computer and having it shut down instead of hibernating makes me having to set a timer for 25 minutes so I can remember to keep it alive.

I have SOME understanding that there are technical problems you just can’t work around. But here you totally changed the behaviour of the service. I would never ever have signed up for a whole year if I had known this change!

The question is more what you do use it for to have it just run in the background? There's no way of knowing when or even if they'll return it, so in the meantime we might as well try to see how we can help with the 30 min limit in place.

I use it as my regular computer.

I have programs running that I want to use them within seconds when I return to the computer. Setting everything up from “zero” every time Shadow has shut down ( instead of just hibernating ) is a lot of work and hassle. Also the shut down doesn’t wait for programs to close safely so I have quite a few “rescue” files to handle when i get it up and running again.

With hibernation I just had to log in and then everything was there. HUGE difference. I wouldn’t even mind a 15 min limit if it hibernated instead of the shut down.

If I had known you would replace your hibernation policy with a Shut down policy I would have ended my subsciption in 3 seconds instead of upgrading to Infiite.
