The [Almost] All-In-One-Guide to Shadow.

If you’re a newer member to the Shadow Community, welcome! If you’re seeking out some assistance upon what you can do with your new Shadow; here’s a few tips or even recommendations to what you can feel free to do to your Shadow.    Using Storage Responsibly: This is the most important tip to actually take note of when using your Shadow. If you may haven’t known already, when ordering Shadow you’re limited to 256 GB’s upon ordering the base tier [Boost]. It’s recommended that you use this storage responsibly and not quickly! If you have the money to burn, feel free to add more storage via the account page ( This will help maintain your storage and allow for you to download all of your favorite games! )  Terms and Rules: Because this is a streamed based service with databases, it’s important to actually follow the rules given in this community. Most rules are quite simple to follow. Overclocking, Torrenting, and Mining Crypto-Currency are a few of the rules to not do with your Shadow

Hello,       Is it possible to use the USB ports on computers and better yet my cell phone to plug in my quest into side quest? And if that is possible are we able to use does quest link to play rift games?

R-0xE06D7363 Windows 10 is at it again

If you have this issue it is due to a Windows 10 issue. Here is how you fix it.  Uninstall Shadow Download and install CCleaner (Free version: https://www.ccleaner.com/) Run CCleaner and run an "Easy Scan" and cleanup Go to the your %appdata% folder (Windows search '%appdata') and delete all 'Shadow'-related folders Delete the folder C://Users/username/.shadow Restart your computer Download and install Shadow again at https://account.shadow.tech/apps If this still fails follow these steps: Shut down your Computer Unplug power to your router Unplug power to your cable/DSL modem and wait 15 seconds Restart your modem and wait for all lights to return Restart your router and wait for all lights to return Start your computer again and connect to your Shadow to see if the issue persists.  If this still fails go to your Shadow launcher settings, click send logs and send them to shadow support.

R-0xC0000135 Windows 7 error

Microsoft has discontinued windows 7 support in 2020 and as a consequence shadow has dropped windows 7 support. So to regain access to shadow on your PC you need to upgrade to to the latest windows version. You can start the upgrade process here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and the best part! Its totally free!

Mouse Latency over 100%

Reports from users stating that mouse latency is very high.    Clients:  Pc: reported Mac: reported Ghost: no reports Box: no reports   One users solution... shutdown shadow on stable client. Switch to alpha version, allow update to go through. Load shadow check... if issue is cleared keep using alpha or switch back to stable.

XBOX One Controller not working anymore on Ghost Alpha

Hey! The XBOX Controller doesn't work anymore when it's used on Ghost Alpha over Bluetooth. On connect it doesn't vibrate anymore. It shows up in the joy.cpl but recognize no input. When I switch to the Beta Client it connects instantly in the Loginscreen of the Ghost while vibrating and works like it should. Maybe you can look into that issue, before it gets into Beta or Official Client.

Do you have A Defective Modem?

Intel’s Puma 6 chipset is defective (hardware defect) creating network latency spikes and Network jitter. This is caused by the puma getting overloaded by shadows consistant data stream and running a high priority maintinance tread to clear the processor.  If you have one of these Intel Puma Modems please replace immediately. Your internet will thank you!

General Resolution TipsF.A.Q.

Welcome to the one stop shop for all your resolution questions.   Shadow is a live stream, unlike that of Netflix and Hulu which can buffer, and thus streaming greatly depends on the strength of your internet connection. The stream quality also depends on how much bandwidth you have allocated to Shadow. We recommend setting your allocated bandwidth at 10 to 15 Mb/s lower than your highest download speed. Mouse Cursor ModesF.A.Q.

If you ever notice that your mouse is behaving oddly in-game (i.e., the camera spins around, your viewing angle points up or down, or you can’t control it properly), please use our Mouse Modes (unlocked or locked) within Shadow. You can cycle through these modes via the shortcut Alt + Windows + M (Windows) / Command + Option + M (MacOS). Please note that this is only available for our desktop apps.   If you are on macOS Catalina or higher, please try allowing Shadow to monitor inputs on your Mac. This setting can be added through your Mac's Security and Privacy page. As a reference, I have a included the screenshot below:     If you’re on mobile, please connect a controller to improve your experience. You can also enable our virtual controller too.

Tips on Alleviating Start IssuesF.A.Q.

Most launcher errors can be solved by restarting your Shadow.    If you ever encounter any error codes or issues with starting your Shadow, please try shutting down your Shadow completely from the launcher. You can reach this by clicking on the help icon “?” at the top right corner. Select the “Shut Down Shadow” option and it will turn your Shadow off. Please wait about 5 to 10 minutes before starting Shadow again. It may take some time for Shadow to shut down if it has had difficulty starting. Tips for Reducing Lag on ShadowF.A.Q.

Shadow is a live stream, unlike that of Netflix and Hulu which can buffer, and thus streaming greatly depends on the strength of your internet connection. This includes your download speed, upload speed, latency (ping), and jitter. Lag is the noticeable delay between your inputs and the reaction of the server, which can degrade your experience with Shadow. For example, you’re moving your mouse but there is a delay on the stream when the mouse moves. This occurs when your network connection is not optimal, as Shadow reads inputs from your PC and is transmitted to Shadow and then the action is streamed to you. Having minimal latency on your network will help alleviate any lag you may experience.  As of now, you can set a Shadow stream bit rate to run between 5 Mb/s to 70 Mb/s which dictates the visual quality of the stream; just be sure you have the proper bandwidth and are aware of any data limitations you may have. How to connect USB/Bluetooth Devices (Advanced)

If you’ve gone through our basic USB/Bluetooth set-up guide and still have questions or you’re looking for troubleshooting tips, you’re in the right place!  As a reminder, Shadow does not fully support all peripherals aside from a mouse, keyboard, and Xbox/PS4 controllers.     Here, we put any workarounds that we’ve seen resolve issues.  You’re more than welcome to ask users if they’ve tried any more advanced peripherals as well.   To repair controller drivers: 1. Inside Shadow, open Command Prompt as an administrator. 2. In Command Prompt, copy the following command: MsiExec.exe /x {37FD52BF-1242-4404-82A3-0ABC2F2ECDBB} 3. Use the Start menu to shut down Windows. 4. Start Shadow and give its components at least 5 minutes to start. How to Back up your Data/How to Transfer FilesF.A.Q.

How does Shadow Work?F.A.Q.

Shadow receives all of the inputs from your local device and peripherals.  They’re then sent to our data centers which process the commands and send them back to your local device so that the actions are shown on the screen.  This relies on a stable local connection in order to ensure that packet loss does not affect your stream quality.  Everything relies on a secured infrastructure that links our data centers with your Shadow on one end, and your device at the other end.   If you’re interested in learning more about our data centers, please check out our Youtube video here:

Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart this computer.

After the activation or the reset of your Shadow, you can have the following Windows error “Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart this computer.”:   When we create or reset your Shadow, a system preparation (also called by the little name of “sysprep”) is performed. In our case, the sysprep failed and we didn’t detect it automatically.  The workaround is to perform another reset after the failed sysprep, from https://account.shadow.tech/myshadow.

Feedback - When typing in the Description Box: White text on White Background

When I type anything in the description in box, it shows white on white which makes it hard to see. Wonder if it is possible to change the background of the box to something a little darker.   Tried changing the text to black in another post, but when the suggestion/idea is posted, the text comes out on black putting it on the navy gray background.    edit: spelling :)
