Is there any guides to get the best from shadow when using an oculus quest 2

I’m trying to play Half life Alyx on the quest 2. I managed to get it working, but it’s a bit laggy and the video quality isn’t great (up to the point where it looks like a quest game).

Any guides around or tips on how to get the best experience?

Set up

Im using 200mb DL / 20mb upload in London (paris data centre). Triband wifi in the same room as my router using an Eero 6 pro mesh network.

Shadow settings

 Mostly followed this video

Allocated Bandwidth -1mbs

Settings > use optimal resolution - true

Settings > environment quality - low

Settings > frame rate > 72 fps

Settings > desktop bit rate > 18 mbps

Settings > dynamic lighting > always enabled

Settings > increase color vibrance > true

Streaming > VR graphics quality > Low

Streaming > VR frame rate > 72 fps

Streaming > VR bit rate > lowest

Streaming > Sliced encoding > true

Streaming > Extra latency mode > true

Streaming > increased color vibrance > true

Steps

Macbook to start shadow  (should I be closing this after?)

Connect quest 2 to shadow via virtual desktop

Go to games → play Half life:alyx

I used the help provided on the virtual desktop discord. Here is the link:

Worked a treat and can play half life alyx on high settings, looks amazing!

Tried reducing desktop stream all the way down? I changed mine to 4mbps. That might help. I run my Shadow via iPhone but make sure I quit the app once connected.

You’re right though. The graphics don’t look that amazing no matter what settings I try. Even if I push it too much that it starts to break up you can tell the image quality isn’t that impressive. Some other Quest games like The Room look sharper. Perhaps that’s a limitation on the Shadow GPU. Textures especially look quite bland.

It’s great to be able to play a proper fully fledged VR game though at last (for me anyway) so guess it’s worth it, for now.

Okay, yes ive been able to use shadow while playing half lyfe and the rocky experience alongside with mostly all games that were leggy (all of them) was getting a decent, router. nothing special but to isolate you and the network from interference  and the device you have shadow booted up on. it seriously freaking helps. another, is virtual desktop. if you’re seriously using the shadow vr app then im sincerely sorry. also turn down your main screen thats running shadow to 1mb

those are most important, if anything ill remember to drop back and add some more
