Hi! I’ve just bought a power upgrade and I notice that there is no 120hz option in the Shadow app for any resolution. Tried all 1080,1440,4k - only 60fps is available.

I saw an old video on youtube where the 120hz option was available.

Havent managed to find any info regarding that.

I have a shield tv pro + lg c1, hdmi 2.0 cable all support 120hz at least in 1080p level.

Shadow app version 13.12.2

@Mexa Did you set the Shield’s output mode to 1080p@120Hz (Settings → Device Preferences → Display & Sound → Advanced display settings → Custom display mode → Filter by refresh rate (select 120 Hz) → Display modes → Select a 1920x1080 120 Hz mode.

I don’t believe Android TV applications can automatically switch into these 120Hz modes, when the output is set in a different refresh rate mode.

@Jim29er thank you for your response.

I have changed the setting as you described and unfortunately shadow app still only fives me 60 fps and below options.

Any more ideas how to achieve higher fps?

@Mexa For that YT video that you mentioned, was that on a Shield/Android TV device, or was it on an Android mobile/tablet device? Do you have the link?

There might be a limitation on Android TV apps (I don’t actually know), which may be the reason 120FPS isn’t an option on NVIDIA’s own GFN/Games apps...on the Shield TV specifically.

I’m not a Shadow subscriber any longer, so can’t compare notes on the Shadow app currently.

@Mexa I was reminded that the Moonlight app works for 120FPS on the Shield TV (streaming from a GameStream-enabled PC), so it must be a limitation within the Shadow app itself.

So I did a test with Moonlight, and indeed it can send a 120FPS stream to the Shield...and the overlay shows it as 120FPS regardless of whether I leave the Shield’s output resolution at 3840x2160 60Hz, or switch it to 1920x1080 120Hz. But, I don’t know if it’s actually displaying all of the received frames, if the output resolution is not set to the latter.

The video I mentioned is here. I actually tried to install the earlier version of Shadow app and seems like that have change the authentication method and they doesn’t work anymore.

Speaking of Moonlight - yes, indeed, and Parsec as well can do a 120fps. So that technically should not be a problem to run that on Nvidia Shield Pro, for me looks like UI limitation for the Android App. But at the same time I heard that Android App on phones can give 120fps as well 🙄

Thanks for that! Indeed that looks like the interface I remember. It seems weird that they’d willfully exclude 120FPS on Android TV now.

@Jim29er Yes, that’s really weird. Actually would really like to see the response from Shadow support here.
