  • Application type: Linux

  • Shadow Client Version: Official

  • Local device CPU: Intel Core i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz

  • Local device GPU: NVidia GeForce 940MX

  • Datacenter location: Chicago

  • Connection speed: 300 mb down, 24 mb up

  • Description of issue: After updating Shadow to the latest version, the screen of my Shadow was pink. This issue occurs on Linux when the Shadow quick menu is enabled, but I have it disabled. I have tried re-enabling it, disabling it again, downloading a new appimage, and running Shadow in windowed mode. None of these have fixed the issue.

I’m experiencing the exact same problem, although with a different CPU and GPU. A workaround for me is to enable Software decoding under Testing settings.

  • Application type: LInux (Ubuntu 20.04)

  • Shadow Client Version: Official

  • Local device CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G

  • Local device GPU: Integrated Radeon Vega 8 Graphics

  • Datacenter location: Amsterdam

  • Connection speed: 1000mbps down, 600 mpbs up, 6ms ping, 1ms jitter

  • Description of issue: A purple and pink screen with banding when using hardware decoding. The same problem occurred before and was solved by disabling the quick menu, that no longer works after the latest update.

Other:

  • Date when problem appeared: noticed today, after the shadow client updated. (Launcher v4.20.5, Client 3.7.5)

  • Did you take any action(s) which could have created this problem?: Automatic update of the client.

  • Do you recall any action(s) you took after it happened?: Tried enabling and disabling the quick menu again, to no avail.

  • Do you use a VPN and/or antivirus?: no

  • Please provide a screenshot of your shadow stats (Alt+Win+O): Unable to do so when the problem occurs.

Fixed my problem following the instructions on https://help.shadow.tech/hc/en-gb/articles/360011233839-Known-Issues-for-the-Official-Version-of-Shadow:

Local computers with an AMD GPU and poor stream or color quality

Due to a bad driver configuration, the stream will not be decoded correctly. You should execute the following command:

curl https://gitlab.com/NicolasGuilloux/shadow-live-os/raw/arch-master/airootfs/etc/drirc -o ~/.drirc

Please restart your computer after executing it.

The ~/.drirc file overrides some settings specifically for Shadow. This also allows me to enable the quick menu without getting the same color problem. Apparently after the latest update the color issue is always triggered and not just when enabling the quick menu.

@kakujas I’m afraid these instructions are not for Nvidia cards, although I do notice that the mobile processor you’re using comes with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 620. You might inadvertently be using the Intel integrated GPU, instead of the Nvidia one?

The ~/.drirc file does contain a similar override for the Intel iris driver, so downloading that file might still work for you? You can also check what card you’re actually using and switch if it’s not the Nvidia. (As far as I understand this is done via the prime-select command, for more details see e.g. here.)

@Stefan I’m using the Nvidia card. I haven’t tried to use Shadow at all for a while because of this. The bug still exists.
