Hi there

i have big problems with my shadow on Apple TV and I hope someone can help me :(

i tried everything to get it work but I have no luck. When I play a game the stream freeze complete and only audio I can hear

I can hear also when I use my controller and click the fire button.
the freeze is coming with no fixed time I can’t say after 10 minutes or something. It came after 10 seconds or after 5 minutes or after 30 minutes and it is really annoying

my things I have already done

  • restart Apple TV
  • updated Apple TV to the newest iOS 13 and after that to iOS 14 but with no effect
  • updated shadow app / TestFlight 3.1.0
  • apple tv connected with lan cable
  • deactivate location service on Apple TV
  • reduce the resolution to full hd and not 4K
  • reduce the FPS to 30
  • activate / deactivate the h265 codec
  • tested different controllers

my internet is a 200mbps cable connection and it is very stable

I have also update and hardreseted my router but all with no effect. I have my Apple TV 4K since 3 months and I couldn’t play normally shadow on my Apple TV. Other things like Netflix or Amazon worked normally

the funniest thing, on my iPad, iMac, MacBook  or iPhone it works like a charm

so I hope really someone can help me

with best regards

nico

Hey rgcline,

did you test also the following things ?

I’m having the same issue using an ipad 2019, turning low-bandiwth mode off and setting the bandwith to 5mbs seems to alleviate the issue but it will still hang every 10 minutes or so
I suppose this is a bug of the ios build

Exactly the same setup, exactly the same issue.

The shadow app interface on Apple TV is still working. Audio continues playing and you can hear the controller is still connected and active in the game. Only the video stream seems to be frozen.

One thing I have noticed in my gaming session today is that the first freeze tooke some time to occur (30min to 1h) and as I continue playing, freezes became more and more frequent.

Thanks,

Hugo

Try resetting your Apple TV to default settings and restoring the device. It could also be your internet connection.

Thanks @Firstdolly. Already did a few days back but still experiencing this issue. My internet connection seem stable. Lan cable, Fiber… again, this only happen on Apple TV, on my laptops or mobile, it works fine.

Hi, same issue as others here, I have not troubleshot to the same extent, but it sounds like an app issue. Anyone found anything yet?

Hi, I have the same issue. There must be a problem with the Shadow app for Apple TV. Please fix it. Currently it’s unusable on Apple TV.

Please try with Shadow set to 20 Mbps and h265 disabled.

Some ATV models are having a hard time decoding more than 30-40 Mbps.

I have the same issue on my AppleTV.

I tried with Shadow set to 20 Mbps and h265 disabled but it doesn't work better.

Brand New Apple TV 4K fully updated and same issue.

Disabling low bandwidth mode (H.265) solved the freezing issue for me.

This definitely worked for me, experiencing the same video stream freeze ( but working audio ). Symptoms stopped after turning off “low bandwidth mode” on AppleTV 4k

Mine hangs with h264 no matter the bandwidth (70 mbps wired). Brand new Apple TV 4K. If i switch to h265 i can play but i do feel the input lag.

not sure what to think about it.
