Slow Internet on shadow

First steam has to allocate space, which is slower because of the type of hard drive that’s being used.

Once the allocation is done, the download speed should be much higher.

That said, the download speed from steam is going to depend on their servers as well. If you’re able to download files from anywhere on the internet at the speed you’re expecting, just not steam, then the issue is on steam’s end.

Also, keep in mind the common pitfall of download speed when downloading a file: Although the bandwidth is often measured in bits, the download of a file is nearly always measured in bytes. And because bits and bytes are not equal, you don’t download a gigabyte a second on a gigabit connection.

On your shadow, go to http://speedof.me and check the speed of your shadow’s internet connection. Then use the table above (and some math) to get an idea of how much MB/S you should actually get, keeping in mind that this is a maximum and whether it achieves that maximum is going to be more on steam’s end (and the condition of internet traffic at the time, and any other programs you have running) than on shadow’s end. And again, this download speed is what you should have after the game is done allocating space, not before.
