Question

USB Peripherals not forwarding anymore.

Userlevel 1

I have seen plenty of posts here regarding this issue, however I can’t seem to find a decent solution for this.

I am using Shadow on my Windows PC.

I have been playing MSFS2020 with my Logitech Yoke system for about two weeks, but since last week, I can’t forward my yoke anymore. The box is there, but it won’t let me click it.

I have reinstalled the drivers twice, I have reset my settings, I’ve re-installed shadow on my PC completely, I have done everything I could, but they still wont work.

I really don’t know what else i can do to solve this issue, any help would be appreciated.

Yeah it’s so annoying! I’ve contacted support and i did everything they told me to do, including switching to the beta, however the problem is still here. It’s so frustrating. I hope this gets fixed soon!

If you are experiencing USB issues be sure to include log’s in your support ticket. -Gelgoog

have you solved it?

Anyone solved this? same happening for me, done all that support has suggested

I solved it by resetting my pc, every 6 months I reset it

I resetted my PC too, but it doesn’t work for me..

Anyone got another idea how to solve this?

For me the same, i think it could be easy fixed. It worked before.

The only way to solve this for me was resetting my PC.

This problem occured in july the first time. After a reset it started working again.

Yesterday I had to do it again because suddenly forwarding didn’t work anymore.

Now it’s working again.

This is really annoying but the only way for me to get it working again..

Same issue here.   So so annoying.  I play MSFS mainly and rely on my hotas and rudder pedals.  Everything was great, working fine.  Couldn’t give shadow enough praise.  Then suddenly, nothing connects via usb forwarding any longer.  This appears to be affecting macs and windows.  I’ve tried both, including beta software.  The devices show up and are ticked, but in game not present.

this all seems to have came about since I installed the usb drivers update, which was compulsory.  Is it something to do with the new usb auto forwarding feature ?

ive contacted support and sent logs.

Nothing seems to be happening particularly quickly or being rectified.  I’m paying £42 a month for this service….. And I really don’t want to have to reset shadow on the chance it may or may not rectify the problem, as MSFS would require me to download 90+GB.

any help would so be much appreciated either from the Community or Shadow dev team please

Exactly the same issue here mate! With the exception of a couple of occasions I’ve always been able to use my HOTAS throttle and Joystick and Rudder pedals. I even use Virtualhere for passing my TrackIR!

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the USB Drivers, I’ve cleared the redirected list. I’ve uninstalled Shadow, installed the Beta and no change.

Once I fire up Shadow and Open the quick menu I can see the devices. If I select them I can hear the sound played when a USB device is unplugged and usually hear the plugged in sound shortly afterwards. At the moment if I leave the devices checked they will uncheck themselves every 10-20 seconds and play the unplugged sound and cycle through that process ad infinitum.

Latency below 33ms and bandwidth set to 25mbps though I’ve had all three devices running as low as 15mbps without issue.

Trouble is the vast majority of users will be using playstation of Xbox controllers, it’ll be the niche users that try to use flight sticks and racing wheels. Incidentally I could use the G29 Racing wheel as well up until recently! As flight sims and the occasional Race sim is my thing if I can’t get it working I’ll cancel the service which would be a terrible shame as I’ve been with them since the beginning of 2019 and couldn't rate it high enough!

What may be of interest to other users is that using the Virtualhere trial that allows one device to connect, Each device will connect and work without issue, so it’s not a device driver issue. something has changed with Shadow’s USB through IP, (I think Eltima provide the pass through software).

Glad I’m not the only one.  Thought I was going mad.  I’ve reset shadow today and reinstalled MSFS.  I can however confirm this has made no difference.  Like you, I’ve been with them since 2019 and can’t rate the service highly enough until this.  But as flight simming is my thing, and I’m not prepared to use an Xbox controller.   I will simply cancel my subscription when it runs out next month if not rectified ASAP.

Your not telling me the DEVS can’t work this out.  And seem pretty tight lipped.  Makes you wonder, if a third party is involved in the forwarding process, if theres a dispute with them.  Given shadows recent history.  Shame, because it had been a great service, which I was prepared to pay the higher premium for, in order to support them.  But my patience is warring a little thin.

out of interest you mentioned virtual here.  Have you got your hotas to work with this, at this time given shadows difficulties.  If so how, because I’ve been trying to see if I could find a work around with this, but haven’t had any success setting it up.

To get virtualhere to work you'll need another app called zero tier one. www.zerotier.com there's a server version that goes on your host computer and then a client version that installs on your shadow. It's been a while since I've done the set up but there were pretty decent instructions on their website. Effectively zerotier one networks your host and shadow pcs this then allows virtualhere to work across the two.

The trial with virtualhere allows a single device, I think to unlock the full features it's a one of payment of about £50. I would be reluctant to pay extra for it tbh, especially since it was working fine preciously.

I'll try and dig out the instructions and post them here.

So thanks to Jimmcocker for his advice above.  I’m now back up and flying with my hotas on Shadow.

Although the official usb forwarding still appears to be a problem this evening.

The solution as stated above for me is using ZeroTier and virtual here.   And unless I am mistaken doing it this way seems smoother.  So although I don’t really want to part with more cash.  If this is a viable permanent solution until shadow can address the issue, I think I’ll probably be parting with a bit more cash to add more usb devices via virtual here.

Again thanks to Jimmcocker above.

And for anyone who wants to try this here an easy guide.

Easy Way B: ZeroTier One + VirtualHere
You will need:

Steps:

  • Register a ZeroTier account.
  • Install ZeroTier on both your own PC and on Shadow.
  • Log in to ZeroTier one on both sides (I think you have to launch it the first time by hand), then you can set it to auto-start.
  • Install VirtualHere Server on your local PC. Which server? The one you need. See the link above!
  • Install VirtualHere Client on Shadow.
  • Go to How to use VirtualHere?

How to use VirtualHere?

  • Open VirtualHere client on Shadow.
  • Right-click the desired USB device, and either mount it now or you can set it to automount on login.
  • You are done!

Excellent, I’m glad I managed to help someone!!

Whilst I said I didn't want the extra expense I think I will pay for the Virtualhere subscription. Works out at £35 pounds which is much cheaper than I originally remarked. Certainly whilst using the trial It’s always just worked, no messing about! If it doesn’t I’m sure it would be fixed much quicker than Shadow could!
