I have had Shadow for a few days and I wanted to see if there is any advice I can get regarding issues that I am having with with streaming video within the application.
When either streaming video (YouTube, ESPN+) and gaming (Steam) I encounter significant amounts of stuttering with the video. I have tried a couple of things to resolve it (upping bandwidth usage and enabling “low bandwidth mode”) but neither improved the quality of the video.
I have the FPS counter running in Steam while playing a game and it shows a fairly steady 60FPS. Latency in the Shadow usage states is >30 and packet loss is 0.
My laptop is connected wirelessly via WiFi on what should be a 5ghz band (I feel like I saw 2.4 when setting up for some reason but that shouldn’t be right) and both video streaming and gaming are pretty much unusable. TV is connected is directly connected to a mesh WiFi satellite which improves the stuttering but the image quality is still rough. The TV is running the app through a Nvidia Shield TV Pro. I have been running GeForce Now through it for a few months now with little to no issues.
My internet connected is 100/10 and any tests I show full speed both ways with single digit latency.
I am going to test a direct connection to the modem at some point to see if that improves anything, but it would still be important for me to be able to use the service via a wireless connection.
I know that the service works and works well, I am just trying to figure out how to make it work well for me. I have also used it for non-gaming and non-video tasks and it works wonderfully. I just need to get the video issues sorted out.
Thank you for any feedback you can provide. Let me know if you need any additional detail.
