When will USB Forwarding be fixed for MacOS?

Badge +1

I used to be able to select my quest to forward usb on my Mac.  It hasn’t worked for a while.  I’ve seen where it’s known but not that there’s a patch or fix.  Any word?

Hello @Keoki
What is your issue and what is the peripheral impacted?
Concerning issues with MacOS USB Peripherals, a fix has been pushed to beta, did you try it?

Hey, thanks! I use Oculus Quest, MacBook Air 2018, and ShadowPC. There’s currently two different issues I’m having.

  1. I’d like to wirelessly access file structure on Quest through Virtual Desktop.  Haven’t gotten that working yet.

  2. This issue. New Oculus v17 allows Oculus Link with any usbC cable. When I connect my cable, it detects the Quest but does not allow me to select it.  I have not tried beta release...not aware of where/how to do that but haven’t looked for it.

I let you check on Beta version and tell me if it is corrected:

Do not hesitate to uninstall / reinstall your USB driver: https://help.shadow.tech/hc/en-gb/articles/360013798680-I-installed-USB-Peripherals-but-my-device-is-not-forwarded-in-my-Shadow

The usb uninstall/reinstall didn’t work. Tried repeatedly.

the beta, as far as I’ve found, only seems to be for the Shadow Ghost hardware device. I think? I can’t find any macOS app for beta.

hopefully someone knows! Thanks for your response!

The Mac beta is found on the apps page when you log in to the website.  It’s the same page that you download the regular app, just farther down on the page.

No, it is for all versions, but I agree the information on this page is not really clear. Will update it asap.

Mainwhile, you can find the Beta version for Mac on your web account page, section Applications, bottom of the page.

  1. Uninstall USB driver on your Stable version
  2. Close this version
  3. Install the Beta version
  4. Launch it
  5. Install USB driver from the Beta version

Ok after digging I found it! I was looking at the site download section and had to find it through my account page.  Got the beta installed, it detects, the quest gives me the usb sounds indicating it’s recognized a usb device, the shadow does it as connected aaaaaaand….nothing. PC doesn’t se Quest. Quest doesn’t see PC.

not sure what I’m missing.

Did you follow steps I gave you when I asked to uninstall USB driver on the Stable version?

Yes I did! That was what got the checkbox to finally allow me to check it off. And started giving me USB sounds. It clearly recognizes some thing is there because it gives me the chime for a USB device being plugged in or unplugged. However

Hello,

I’m also having a problem getting the usb forwarding to work with my Quest 2 and Shadow running on a MacPro Mojave 10.14.6

I’ve tried all the suggestions exactly as stated above, including installing latest Beta, but still doesn't work.

I can recreate the problem easily.  I plug in my Quest2, start shadow, open quick menu USB, my quest shows up in the list.  But I am unable to select it.  If I look in my Quest2, it is asking me to allow, I select Allow, and instantly the Quest2 disappears from the Shadow list.

Now if I unplug usb, and plug Quest2 back in, it reappears in the Shadow list (still can’t select it), and the Allow menu shows up again in Quest2.  I select Allow, and Quest2 once again disappears.

P.S.  I also get an message about allowing the ELTIMA LLC extension to load in System preferences, but I don't see it at all in the preferences or list of allow.  I added Shadow app to the list, but that didn't seem to help.

Please advise...I think if I can just get that Quest2 selected, everything will work from there.

Thanks in advance

As far as I know it does not work. I never have been able to get this working since I got my shadow. I eventually learned that I do not think it’s meant to work. Maybe they will make it so at some point in time, but it’s not currently supposed to work that way. You can do virtual desktop to your quest no problem at all and it works great. But using it through the wired connection does not work that I am aware of.

Thank you Keoki, that sounds very unfortunate.  Seems so close to working...and the Shadow dev felt they fixed it in the Beta, so it must be something they feel “SHOULD” work?

If someone on the Shadow dev team can provide clear expectations and/or a workaround, that would be awesome.

Thanks

Yeah way back when I was trying it they told me beta fixed it.  It didn’t.  As far as I could ascertain, there’s the following factors:

~ Mac

~ Shadow PC

~ Quest/1&2

~ oculus app

~ Link

it seemed to me that shadow was the issue as all the rest seems to work fine.
I could never get it to work and eventually found some people saying it was a failing of Shadow.  Then I saw some reference to shadow VR and thought maybe they were doing a custom use for it but never followed up.  Frankly I’m keeping my shadow because it’s great to have but I REALLY wish I could use Link.

Thanks Keoki, I agree, seems to be something specific with Shadow.

To Shadow Dev’s, I'm using a PCIe USB 3.0 4-port card.  I originally had it plugged into the 3rd port, but changed it to the 1st port.  After I did that, Oculus showed up in OSX System Information.

Do you think having a PCI card versus onboard USB, might be causing part of the issue for port forwarding in Shadow?  (Oculus Developer Hub & Sidequest work fine however).

I would be open to testing additional Beta’s to help resolve.

That download is broken and it doesn’t seem like anyone works here anymore.
